Doyle unlocked the door to his apartment and felt the weight of the day dragging him down as he moved into his living room. A hot shower and some coffee would fortify him. One more interview. That would top off the day. He could do it. He had to. That’s the only way he’d solve this case, he convinced himself. Even if he felt his world had been ripped apart by Captain Herd. Realistically, he’d known all along that there’d be consequences for the Incident. That everything would come crashing down around him eventually. The Department just took its time getting around to a decision on what disciplinary action to take. As for his fellow officers, the Incident would never be forgotten unless and until he’d paid the price for what everyone thought of as his violation of the codes they all lived
