Emma blinked hard. “What the hell?” she said unconsciously, scrambling to sit upright. Her hands fumbled for something that she could use to defend herself. Her voice rose half an octave. “What are you doing here? How did you get into the house?!” Matthew leaned casually on the doorframe like he wasn’t in someone’s private bedroom. Like this wasn’t weird or f*****g insane. He was in a white dress shirt and black slacks, an irritating smirk tugging at his mouth like this was a perfectly normal Tuesday evening. “Relax,” he said. “Eliana said I could come by anytime.” Eliana said he could come by anytime? She wasn’t clear on the dynamics between the Youngs and the Dales, she had assumed they had the same employee employer relationship as everybody else, and at most, they were friends.
