chapter six

Elisa’s POV He led me straight to the VIP section and straight to my seat and pointed at it. “There, you must be Lord Elisa Mackenzie of the west!” he asked, and I smiled, but his straight face didn’t change much. “I am sorry for the trouble you had to go through, settle in with I come back to tender a warm apology for that.” He said, and I smiled as a response, and he turned and left to attend to the guests, but truly he was a gentleman from what he did out there. “Ben, that is never to be mentioned to my grandfather.” I said immediately, I saw Ben sit beside me. “Of course miss!” he replied, as he knew well that not only would the trip be cut short, but he might also lose his job. I was still trying to get my head around what this is and why there is a party tonight before I heard a click on the wine cup and I looked up, only to see Lord Damien again. “Mind if I hide here!” he said, and I smiled as I stretched my hand and collected the second cup of wine from him, which meant an indirect acceptance, and he sat and stared at me a little. It was weird. “No one told me that the lord of the west is a female and so young!” he said, and I sat back as Ben stood up and walked away from the table, giving me a room to express myself freely. “No one told me that the lord of the north and the east doesn’t know that Elisa is a female name and judge people based on their age or size!” I replied and he chuckled before slipping his wine. “You are quite a pin of interest, you stepped into my party, and you are already the talk of the place, taking my party away from me! West must have brought you up, stealing the limelight and getting late to the party to avoid the host.” He said to the party late. I was confused. “Lord Damien, I am a woman of beauty and honoring your invite was what I tried my best to do after flying in a plane for hours. I don’t think you should stand on that when you should be apologizing for the mess I encountered at your party.” I replied as my blood was already boiling from what he was saying. “Everyone here has something else to do, and I am sure they had to leave it and endure an hour’s flight to be here, but none of them caused a scene at my party like you did! I must ask Miss Elisa, what is your relationship with Bell hell?” he asked, and I rolled my eyes and looked away. What a lousy human being! I can’t believe he was the man I was admiring the other time. He was so kind the other time, even though he was very cold to the carter, but I felt he was a very good man, but this is the very opposite of what he was the other time. “I think Lord Damien should be hosting his guest now!” I said with a very sly smile and he chuckled again. “With this temper, I wonder how Miss Elisa will be able to control a project if her temper is very harsh towards her potential client, or do I have to remind her that I am the business lord of the north. I thought we might get to discuss the future project after you explain the scene you caused, but it seems I don’t need to be here!” he said, and my heart skipped a beat. Bastard! He was trying to pull my leg the other time! “Mr. Damien..” I said, and before I could get through with my words, he stood up and looked at me once with just a sentence out of his mouth. “Thanks for coming, Miss Elisa Mackenzie, I have a guest to host.” He said and walked away. I could only watch him in regret after understanding he was trying to test the waters with him and I totally messed up the conversation with him. “How was it?” Ben asked as he pulled up his seat and sat back in his former position. “How did he go?” he asked again, and I sipped my wine as I looked away. “You messed it up, didn’t you?” he said, and I looked at him with a frown, and he sighed loudly before looking away at other guests who could be potential clients. “Excuse me” I said, and stood up and walked to the restroom. It scents nice in there but all I wanted to do was to breathe and regain my peace of mind. I looked in the mirror and I could remember vividly all that happened years back. All my experiences as the wife of Desmond Carter and attending a party just as a toy are now over. After years, we could only meet strangers and not just strangers, but enemies! Maybe that affected my mood towards Lord Damien. I thought I was over it, I thought I had grown past the feeling, but thinking about it, it hurts. He moved on so swiftly with another woman by his side, at least the one the family supports, but I am here, still finding my foot on the land I once owned. Maybe I overstepped with Lord Damien, but he poached the side that hurts in me. Talking about what happened earlier was not what I expected. I thought we had moved past that. I was not planning to mix business with emotion, but it was a party for Christ's sake. “a penny for your thought!” an angelic voice said, and I looked up, only to see a beautiful lady smile at the mirror in front of us as she reapply her makeup on her face. “You might have to get a whole box for my pennies!” I said and she laughed. “I noticed the mirror was screaming at how hard you stared at it.” She said and faced me as she stretched her hand for a handshake. “My name is Teresa Brown!” she said and I smiled and shook her hand. “Elisa Mackenzie!” I replied and she looked horrified immediately, and I almost thought she had an allergy reaction to me. “Elisa Mackenzie!” she yelled.
