Alli looked at the knife. Its blade almost seemed to glow in the moonlight streaming through the window. She had thought of many scenarios in which she could escape but she hadn’t let her mind wander into those dark places. She still had hope. The Luna Ceremony was only two days away. She picked up the knife and found a hiding spot for it. Perhaps it would come in handy during her escape.
She returned to the window, looking into the clear night sky.
Jason was one of the first to leave the dining hall for the evening. The constant questions about the new luna were annoying. By now everyone knew about her medical condition that kept her confined to her room. Many people were curious how she was doing and if she would be well enough for the upcoming ceremony. They all felt so sorry for the poor Alpha, yet amazed at his dedication to the new luna. His mother had done a fantastic job telling everyone how he took care of her each night and how she spent every day with her. How the two of them were nursing this poor woman back to health. He silently scoffed.
You’ve been laying it on a little thick, don’t you think? He mind-linked his mother as he headed up to his room.
Now dear, they have to be in love with their new luna. That’s hard to accomplish when they haven’t even met the woman! And just imagine their faces when she walks out on stage. They’ll think they’re seeing a miracle!
He supposed she was right. He hadn’t wanted her becoming involved in his pack, but they needed to love and support her if he was going to be able to play the part of grieving widow after she suddenly passed away. The whole werewolf community was about to see the strong, fierce leader with a remarkable human luna by his side. He would captivate them and win over packs that had previously denied a treaty with them based on some of his “outdated thinking”.
For instance, he didn’t see the need to include women in his army, and when you had plenty of able bodied men, why should you? He also believed in ruling over his people, unlike some Alphas who forgot who they were and let their people dictate their actions. Allison would help him show a softer side. And once she impressed the King and Queen, he would have his foot in the door to join the Royal Court. The Royal Court was made up of a group of some of the most prominent Alphas worldwide. They meet with the Elders once a year to bring issues of the people and propose new laws. That kind of power is what makes life worth living.
Jason found himself standing outside of Allison’s door. Seth prowled in his head, he wanted to go see his mate.
Jason opened the door to find his mate standing at the window like most nights. Her eyes were wide with fear.
“Don’t look at me like that, little mate.” He said softly. He stood in front of her and caressed her cheek.
Alli pulled away from the contact. She hated the sparks that stung her skin when he touched her. Jason grabbed her chin roughly.
“You know I hate it when you’re rude. I’ve told you nicely so many times.” He moved his hand to her chest and pressed her quickly against the wall. She gasped as she felt the wind knocked out of her by the force.
“Now I’m afraid we’ve run out of time for polite conversation. Your ceremony is in two days from now.” He slowly swept his hands over her body, feeling the amazing sparks flow through him.
“You will not embarrass me in front of our guests.” He leaned his forehead down against her head. “I need you to promise me.”
“I promise.” Alli barely managed to choke out. She shook as he pressed into her.
“Good.” He slid his hand up around her neck and gave it a squeeze. “Because I would hate to have to punish you, little mate. You know that, right?” He whispered in her ear.
Alli let out a sob before nodding her head yes against his grip.
During his late night visits he had never hit her. He had only held her down and had his way with her. She had even thought once that maybe it wasn’t so bad here, because at least she didn’t have to endure drunken beatings. But now she knew he wouldn’t hesitate to hurt her if she stepped out of line.
Jason let go of Allison’s throat and crashed his lips into hers. He kissed her feverishly while she flinched. He suddenly stopped, grabbing her hair and pulling her face from his. His eyes were black.
“Kiss me back, mate!” He demanded in a growl.
Alli returned his harsh kiss and felt herself being lifted off the floor and carried to the bed. She started to panic before telling herself to calm down and let the emptiness take her. She lay on the bed while he stripped away her clothes. Her eyes fell to the side of the bed where the digital clock sat. She watched the dots blink in between the numbers. She had used this technique when she was with Leeland. He hated it when she cried during s*x and so she discovered that if she focused on something else, she could let her mind slip away from reality. Back then, she had been counting the little glass bubbles on the lamp that sat on her nightstand. Here it was those red blinking lights on the clock. She would count them, blinking ten times, then start again.
Jason was being rough tonight. Rougher than usual. Looking up, she saw that he was bearing his canines and in a swift motion he bent his head down and bit her on the side of her neck. She grabbed his arms as a reflex and screamed as pain electrified her entire body. She kept screaming as the pain consumed her. She felt Jason’s release and felt the pain ease as he rolled to lay beside her.
“Now that’s more like it.” He hooked his arm around her waist, pulling her into him.
“I like it when I can make you scream, baby.”
“You bit me!” Alli grabbed her neck. “You f*****g bit me!” She couldn’t contain her anger as she struggled against him.
Jason laughed and Alli stopped struggling. His laugh chilled her to the core.
“I marked you.” He gripped her shoulder, placing his thumb over the bite. Her body shuddered at the touch.
“Do you know what this means? This means you are truly mine. I will always be able to feel you. I’ll know what you’re thinking. I’ll always be able to find you, little mate.”
Alli felt fear creep over her like she had never felt before. If what he was saying was true, then she wouldn’t be able to escape him. He could find her. He would never let her go.
He started laughing again and Alli began to feel her hope slowly slipping away. She had a realization and looked up at her pillows, quickly shoving her hand under them. In one swift motion she grasped the knife handle and brought it down hard, connecting with Jason’s shoulder.
