Jason sat in his office with his mother for most of the morning. He had left out some of the details in his plan, but his mother was a smart woman. She was a clever woman who had been silently responsible for many of the business ventures his father had made. Like Jason, she saw the value in expanding the pack and securing its status as one of the most powerful packs.
Jason had taken over the pack at eighteen and his father had a sudden heart attack shortly after. Everyone had expected Luna Jennifer to crumble at the loss of her mate, but she had immersed herself in pack business and helped Jason continue to expand its borders. Few knew that the Alpha and her had been chosen mates and their relationship had been strained in his final years.
“I agree that a human Luna isn’t what I pictured for you, but it will definitely serve to our benefit. I will train her myself. Having control over what she learns and restricting her access to the pack’s business is vital. We’ve worked too hard for her to screw it all up now.”
“How should I handle the questions I keep getting about keeping her in her room?” Paul had been giving Jason the cold shoulder since the confrontation this morning. He had finally sent him to the training field for the day to assist the gamma and to get him out of his office.
Jennifer thought over the question.
“Send for the doctor.” Jason’s eyebrows arched at the suggestion. “Have the doctor visit her since she is new to the pack. Then we can tell everyone that she has an illness that prevents her from leaving her room. You can just order him to agree if asked.”
His mother was a genius. That was perfect.
Jason had spent most of the early morning hours trying to decide what role he would let Allison play as the new Luna. He didn’t want her involved in pack business, yet he needed her presence to gain favor from the King and Queen. After seeing her briefly this morning, Seth had been agitated, pacing in his head. He felt the mate bond pulling at him. He wanted to be close to her, yet he didn’t want her clouding his judgment. He decided that keeping her down the hall from him and locked away would prevent her from taking over his life. Taking over his pack. Seth growled at the thought in his head.
He knew his mother would understand what he was going through. When he had taken over the pack from his father, she was the only one who offered unwavering support. Knowing that sometimes in business you had to be cutthroat and ruthless when it came to getting what you wanted.
He linked the head doctor and asked him to come to the packhouse and evaluate the new Luna, telling him she wasn’t feeling well. Doctor Greg responded right away, informing him that he would be at the packhouse in fifteen minutes. Jason told him to meet him on the Alpha’s floor as he headed upstairs to prepare Allison.
Alli stood at the window watching the groups of people wandering about below when she heard a rapid knock and then the door was unlocked. Jason entered and walked straight up to her as she stood frozen. His eyes flashed between their golden brown hue to black.
Alli took a step back, pressing against the window seal as Jason looked at her like his next meal.
He finally spoke in a low even tone, “The doctor is here to see you. He’s just performing a quick check-up and then he needs to get back to his duties. You will keep your answers short and to the point. Yes and no only.” He stepped closer, practically pressing against her, “Got it?”
Alli gave a quick nod and swallowed hard. This reminded her of the time Leeland had broken her wrist and he had to take her to the hospital. She followed Leelands instructions and told the doctor that she had slipped on the stairs and broken it.
The doctor entered the room as Jason stepped to the side. He asked her a few questions about her general health, took her temperature and vitals.
“Do you have any questions for me before I go?” Alli looked from the kind older man to where Jason had sat watching her the whole time.
“No, Sir.” She gave a quick shake of her head. The doctor looked over at Jason, then they both left the room together.
When Jason entered the room to let Allison know the doctor was paying her a visit, he was struck with her scent and how good she looked in her new clothing. Seth fought him for control as he stood in front of her. Seth wanted to make her his.
We need to mark and mate her.
Seth, this is why we need to keep our distance. We don’t need this distraction. Stay focused!
Jason regained control and gave Allison instructions for the doctor’s visit. Throughout the visit, he studied her every move. Seth wouldn’t shut up about what he wanted to do to his little mate. Jason was starting to agree.
Doctor Greg finished his exam and Jason linked him that they would discuss the results outside. The doctor nodded in agreement and Jason followed him back into the hallway. The doctor watched as the Alpha locked the bedroom door behind him.
Greg cleared his throat, “Well, Alpha, she’s overall fine as far as I can tell, but she’s severely underweight. I would like to see her with another 20-30 pounds. If she’s feeling run down it’s probably due to a nutritional defic-” The alpha waved his hand to interrupt.
“Thank you doctor. Do you know of any human illness that would make someone very tired? Like, they couldn’t spend a lot of time and energy walking around, tired?”
“Um…well…I suppose severe anemia or something like that. I will have to run some tests, but I don’t think-”
“Yes Doctor. My poor Luna is severely anemic and that’s exactly what you will tell people if asked.” Jason ordered in his Alpha tone. The stunned doctor nodded his head slightly.
“Would you like me to run some tests? I can take a quick blood sample now if you’d like.”
“No doctor, that won’t be necessary. Have a good evening.” Jason dismissed the old man. He watched him make his way to the elevator before turning back to Allison’s door.
Luna Jennifer did her part in making sure plenty of pack members were aware of the Doctor’s visit with the soon-to-be Luna. Plenty of pack members asked how she was doing and what she was like. Jennifer helped paint a picture of a fragile human woman that would be given special attention by herself and Jason as she prepared to take on the role of the new Luna.
She didn’t miss the eye rolls that she caught from a couple of the omegas she knew frequented Jason’s office. She had told him long ago that an omega was good for a quick lay, but not to make the mistake of letting them sleep in your bed. Wouldn’t want them to get too comfortable.
Jennifer was pleased to see the doctor trying to leave the packhouse in a huff but was cornered by a few pack members instead. She smiled as she overheard him telling them about the unfortunate illness that plagued their new Luna, preventing her from leaving her room to interact with everyone. Everything was going as planned.
Jason unlocked Allison’s door and walked in. She was sitting on the couch looking dazed.
“What was that about, Jason? Why did I need to see the doctor?”
“I told you, I wanted him to do a quick exam since you are new in my pack.”
Allison looked down at her hands. Anything to not look at Jason. She found herself attracted to him but he was proving to be more and more like Leeland with each passing moment. He said he was taking her somewhere safe, but so far all he had done was lock her in this room.
“Why won’t you let me leave?”
“Excuse me?” Jason growled. How f*****g ungrateful! He had rescued her, brought her into his home, and was going to make her the Luna of one of the most powerful werewolf packs.
“I just mean, it doesn’t seem like you really want me here.”
“You are my Luna!” He pulled her up into his arms. “You were literally made for me.” Sparks danced across her skin. “You are mine.” He added in a low tone that sent shivers down her spine.
“Then tell me the truth. Who are you and why do you want me here? Do you guys really think that you’re werewolves?” Jason’s breathing got heavy and she felt his heartbeat quicken at the accusation.
Seth growled in his head. Doesn't she believe us? Well, let's show her then! We’ll make her believe.
Jason pushed Allison out of his arms and back onto the couch. He kicked off each shoe and then pulled his shirt over his head. He saw Allison dart her eyes to the ground and grip the seat cushions as he slid off his pants. He felt his bones crack and in a second his wolf, Seth, stood in front of Allison.
