Chapter 6

2090 Words
Jason sat in his office catching up on work when his Beta Paul walked in, sitting at the desk facing Jason’s. Paul had been quieter than usual in the past couple of days since they returned to the packhouse with Allison. He was upset with Jason for keeping him away from the new luna, but he knew he couldn’t do anything about the situation. Jason’s orders now prevented him from seeing Allison or discussing her with others. “Paul, if you’re ready, we have several meetings to prepare for today. But first we need to discuss the upcoming Luna Ceremony.” Paul’s face perked up. “It will be scheduled for two Saturdays from now. I’m emailing you the invite list now. Have your mate send the invites out immediately. Any questions before we continue?” “No Alpha.” Jason nodded and continued through the day’s itinerary. Paul couldn’t help but feel a little relieved. He’d be able to see Allison in a couple of weeks. That meant she was probably doing okay and Jason was just being really overprotective. His wolf, Agnus, didn't agree though. He still paced in the back of Paul’s head. The odd situation still had him on edge. Paul put up his block and tried to focus on the day's work. Alli shifted in the uncomfortable wooden chair. It had a small leather padding but she had been sitting on it all day listening to Luna Jennifer. Jennifer told her to stop fidgeting and corrected her posture once again. She picked at Alli’s mannerisms all day long. Pointing out that “A luna doesn’t act like that.” Some of the information was useful. She learned that Paul was Jason’s Beta and that meant he was the second in command essentially. While the Beta females typically helped with pack affairs such as parties and events. There was also a Gamma who led training for their warriors or took over Alpha duties in some packs while they were away on business. The staff was made up of Omega wolves. Jennifer said these were some of the lowest members in the pack. Alli got the sense that Jennifer was nothing but an elitist b***h. For all of her breathtaking beauty and charm, she was a terrible person. After a small lunch, she started showing Alli pictures of neighboring pack leaders and making her take notes on the pack size and business they were involved with. It was so boring. It became apparent that Jennifer was only interested in what Juniper Hills could get from each of these packs. Land and resources were the main focus. Alli wondered if all packs were like this? The sun was beginning to set when Jennifer finally shut the laptop and said they were done for the day. She reminded Alli that they would begin at 7:30 sharp the next morning and she needed to look like a proper luna. Alli internally rolled her eyes at the comment. Jennifer led her back across the hall to her room, or cell, as Alli had just decided to start calling it. Would they really never leave this room? They’ll have to let me out for the Luna Ceremony. Maybe I can make an escape then? Alli looked around the room and her heart sank at memories from the night before. The bed had been made fresh and nothing looked out of place. How can everything look so perfect and feel so wrong at the same time? It made her want to scream. I guess I could scream since Jennifer had told me that the walls and floors were reinforced with soundproofing. Apparently, werewolves had excellent hearing and that made living in a giant house together difficult if they didn’t have soundproofing. Personally, Alli thought it made them sound like a bunch of serial killers. Who else is proud of soundproof rooms?? Alli went over to look out the window. It had become her favorite spot. She saw people coming and going at all hours. Alli daydreamed about being down there with them. Heading out of the house on her way to work. Hell, heading out anywhere. A couple of hours after sunset, Alli heard the doorknob twisting. She looked at the doorway feeling her breathing pick up. Was it him? Was he back? Would he attack me again? The door opened and a pretty blonde woman pushed in a small food cart. She took the tray of food off the top and sat it on the table without a word. Her long blond curls hid her face as she seemed to purposely look anywhere except at Alli. “Miss, excuse me, please, I need hel-” Alli rushed to her side and grabbed her arm. The young woman pulled her arm away violently and glared at Alli. Alli took a step back and let out a small gasp at the girl's reaction. “Don’t you dare put your hands on me!” She stared daggers at Alli before turning away. “You know, he deserves someone so much better than you. You are nothing!” She slammed the door behind her and locked it. Alli let a tear slide down her face. She was used to hearing insults. Leeland had told her plenty through the years. But having a whole new group of people speak the same words to her was too much. Yesterday’s abuse and today's insults from Jennifer and the omega girl finally caught up with Alli. She sank to the floor and let her tears flow. Jason leaned his head back and moaned as Amber bounced on his lap. She called his name as he continued to drive her hips onto him. He grabbed her tighter as he felt her walls clenching around him and leaned his face forward into her giant t**s. He pulled her down hard and met her thrusts as they both came. He lifted her off of him and pulled his pants back up. He watched Amber start to put on her gray work uniform. “Wait. Come here.” His eyes still dark with lust. She dropped the uniform back to the ground and practically bounced over to him. He watched her curly blonde hair fall around her full breasts. He just wanted one last bite on one of those perky n*****s before he sent her on her way. He pulled her against him as he leaned down. Suddenly he sat back up with a large sigh. Paul was linking him. “Get out.” He pushed her away and stood fixing his shirt into his belt. Amber huffed and quickly put on her uniform. He stood at the office door until she was finished and then ushered her out without a word. A moment later, Paul walked in. “Are you f*****g serious?” Paul fumed. “Good grief, dad. Calm the f**k down.” “You have a mate! And since you brought it up, your father would have been disappointed in you.” Jason stepped close enough that Paul felt his breath on his face. “I am your Alpha, or have you forgotten?” “I know who you are, Jason. I’ve known you your whole life. But I’ve never seen you so out of line.” Jason dropped his shoulders and took a couple of steps back. Paul started to say something else when Jason gave a sucker punch right to the center of his face. Paul grasped at his face as blood started to stream from his hands. He would heal within a matter of minutes, but Jason had made his point. “Next time I see you I don’t want to hear s**t about my personal life. You’re my Beta. You’ll show up to work and stay the hell out of my personal business. Understand?” Yes, Alpha. Paul mind-linked before turning on his heels. By the time he got to the hospital, they would have to break his nose all over again to keep it from healing crooked. He cursed Jason all the way there. And he couldn’t help his concern for the new luna. Jason had never gone off the deep end like this and their fights had never gotten physical, sparring aside. He dreaded telling Frida about what had happened. She had been increasingly upset with Jason and his behavior lately. The fact that they couldn’t even talk about the luna and their concerns made it even worse. Jason mind-linked the head of the omega staff to send someone to his office to clean up the blood. He went and sat back at his desk and stared at his emails, his body radiating with anger. How dare Paul overstep his position? He had always considered him a friend, even though they had definitely grown in different directions over the last few years. He had found his mate on his eighteenth birthday and had turned into a different guy almost overnight. Jason was tired of feeling like Paul was always looking down on every move he made. Maybe when he disposed of Allison he could take care of Paul at the same time. They could both die in the same accident, he thought. “Would you like me to close the door, Alpha?” the young omega said after cleaning the floor. He quickly left his thoughts and told her to close it. He rubbed his temples and thought about the Luna Ceremony only a couple of days away. He was ready to be done with this whole mate situation. It was messing with his head. Every two or three days he paid her a visit. She seemed to become more emotionless each time. The first time they were together she had moaned and screamed for him and now she just laid there. Still, Seth pestered him to go back. Every time he stepped into the room and inhaled her scent it was intoxicating. Today he decided he would have Amber pay him a visit. If only she was a ranked wolf. She was everything he wanted in a mate, the thought as his mind wandered to her visit. He thought about her riding him with such enthusiasm. Her blonde hair and big t**s dragging across his face. If only he could get the same response from his mate. He let out a deep sigh. It wouldn’t be long now before the plan would be fulfilled and he could move on with his life. Alli stood in front of the window letting her mind drift away as she watched people live their lives. Who would have thought that learning how to be mindless arm candy would be so mentally exhausting? Memorizing the faces of people she was supposed to impress, knowing how to properly bow to the King, and learning which fork to use on her salad were the important skills she had spent almost the last two weeks learning. She glanced over to the door anxiously. She probably had no idea how often she would do that. Every few minutes she would be compelled to look. Even though it didn’t matter. It’s not like she had the ability to stop him. The door handle shook as the door was unlocked. Alli held her breath until she saw the omega standing in the doorway. The beautiful blonde girl had made it perfectly clear that she had no intention of helping Alli. At best she wouldn’t even look at her. At worst she would sneer at her and insult her. Amber picked up the empty plate and sat it on the cart. She hated this woman. She should be Luna, not some useless human. She had been happy to see that she seemed miserable to be there. Jason didn’t even seem to want her around. She’d been so happy when he called her into his office today. She couldn’t understand why he wanted her to be the Luna’s personal server. But maybe he was looking for a way out of his bond to this pathetic girl. Maybe it wasn’t too late to be his luna. Amber reached into her uniform pocket and pulled out the steak knife. She calmly sat it on the table and turned back towards the door. “You know Jason doesn’t love you, right? He could never love someone so pathetic.” She paused before adding, “If I were you I’d probably kill myself”, before strolling out of the room. She smiled to herself as she locked the bedroom door.
