Harper slowly opened her eyes and looked around, she was in a large and luxurious room she had never seen before. The room was filled with warm light and the soft sound of a stream outside the window. She rubbed her eyes and slowly sat up, feeling a deep ache in her ribs. She winced and clutched her side, trying to remember how she ended up here.
As she started to piece things together, she remembered the fight with Jasper, how she was badly injured and how Landon appeared just in time to save her. Suddenly, she realized that she was lying in Landon's bed and the reality of the situation hit her. She quickly looked down and saw that she was wearing a large T-shirt, probably one of Landon's.
Harper was filled with a mixture of emotions, anger, confusion, and guilt. She couldn't understand why Landon would bring her here and act like nothing had changed between them. She didn't know if she was ready for this, for him. Harper sat there for a few moments, collecting her thoughts, and tried to prepare herself for whatever might come next. Eventually, the toll from her injuries and recent days catches up to her and she slips into sleep once more.
Harper wakes up in Landon's bed feeling groggy and disoriented. As she starts to fully regain consciousness, she notices Landon sitting in a nearby chair, looking at her intently. The first thing that comes to her mind is the recent events and she immediately starts to panic.
Landon notices the distress on Harper's face and walks over to her, taking her hand in his. "It's okay, lovely," he says softly. "You're safe now."
Harper looks at him, confused. "What happened? How did I get here?"
Landon smiles gently. "After Jasper attacked you, I showed up and took care of him. I brought you back here to my place so I could keep an eye on you and make sure you were okay."
Harper's mind starts to race as she realizes the implications of what Landon is saying. "What about Jasper? What will happen now?" she asks, worried.
Landon shrugs nonchalantly. "Don't worry about it. He won't be bothering us anymore."
Harper narrows her eyes. "Obviously, since you killed him."
Landon nods, a small smile on his face. "Of course. He dared to lay a hand on my beloved Harper. There was no way I was going to let him get away with that."
Harper stares at him, uneasy. She knows that Landon is a powerful fae, and likely won't face any consequences. "But what about the consequences? You won't get in trouble for killing?" she asks, trying to make sure Landon wouldn't face repercussions for protecting her.
Landon just shrugs again. "I don't care. You're worth it. Besides, who's going to come after me? You know I'm always down for a fight."
As Harper tried to process everything that had happened with Jasper and the aftermath, she couldn't help but be concerned for Landon and the potential consequences he may face for killing Jasper. She couldn't bear the thought of him being in trouble or in danger because of her.
Landon noticed her worried expression and chuckled softly. "You really do care about me, don't you lovely?" He teased. "I'm flattered, but you don't have to worry about me. I can handle myself. But let's talk about you. How are you holding up after everything that happened?"
Harper sighed, grateful for the change of subject. "I'm fine, just a bit shaken up."
Landon's expression turned serious as he took her hand in his. "Harper, you don't have to go through these things alone. You know that, right? I'm here for you. And you should have called me. I would have been here for you in a heartbeat."
Harper sat up in bed, her eyes burning with anger as she stared at Landon. "What do you mean acting like we never broke up?" she asked, her voice tight with emotion.
Landon chuckled, a small smile playing on his lips. "Well, lovely, I never agreed to break up. I agreed to give you some space and time, but I never agreed to end our relationship."
Harper's eyes widened in disbelief. "Are you serious? You can't just act like nothing happened! I broke up with you because of your capriciousness and the fact that you couldn't be fully committed to me."
Landon's smile faded and his expression grew serious. "And didn't you do the same by one-sidedly breaking off our relationship without any real explanation or attempt to work things out?"
Harper's anger boiled over and she scowled at him. "I did explain myself! I told you that I needed more from you, more commitment and exclusivity, and you said you couldn't give that to me."
Landon sighed and ran a hand through his hair. "I know, I know. And I'm sorry for that. But can't we at least try to work things out? I still care about you, Harper, and I don't want to lose you."
Harper's heart skipped a beat as she looked into Landon's eyes and saw the raw emotion and honesty in them. Despite her anger and frustration, she couldn't deny that she still felt a strong attraction to him. She shook her head, trying to clear her thoughts. "I don't know, Landon. I need some time to think about all of this."
Landon leaned in, his eyes twinkling with mischief. "Well, while you're thinking, why don't you let me take care of you? I want to make sure you're okay after what happened with Jasper."
Harper was about to reply when Landon's hand reached up and tilted her chin up, forcing her to look into his eyes. "But enough about all that," he said, his voice low and husky. "I've been waiting for this moment for a long time, Harper. To have you here, with me, where you belong."
Harper's heart was pounding as Landon's hand brushed against her cheek, sending shivers down her spine. She wanted to pull away, but at the same time, she couldn't deny the intense attraction she still felt for him.
"Landon..." she started to say, but he cut her off with a soft kiss, his lips claiming hers in a tender, yet demanding kiss.
Harper found herself responding, her arms wrapping around Landon's neck as she deepened the kiss. She couldn't deny that being in Landon's arms felt like coming home, like everything was finally right in the world.
But at the same time, she knew that she needed to be careful. Landon had broken her heart once before, and she didn't want to go through that pain again. She pulled away.
Landon takes advantage of her silence and moves closer to her, placing his hand on her cheek and gazing into her eyes. "I'm here now, Lovely. And I'm not going anywhere. Let me take care of you."
Harper's heart flutters at his touch and she can feel herself being drawn into his seductive gaze. She knows that she is still very attracted to him, but she is scared to let her guard down again.
Landon leans in, his lips inches away from hers, "What do you say, Harper? Let me love you like you deserve."
Harper felt herself blush as Landon's fingers brushed her cheek. She couldn't deny that she wanted him, but she also couldn't ignore the conflicting emotions swirling inside her. She pushed his hand away and stood up from the bed.
"I need some air," she said, grabbing her clothes and heading for the door. "I need to think."
Landon watched her go, his expression unreadable. He sighed and lay back on the bed, his mind racing with thoughts and emotions.
