The Fae Pt.3

2066 Words
The Fae Realms are a complex and diverse world, divided into four distinct seasonal courts: Summer, Autumn, Winter, and Spring. These courts are not ruling bodies, but rather groups of fae with similarities that tend to gather together for mutual support and protection. The seasonal courts are based on the concept of survival of the fittest, where the strongest leads. In addition to the seasonal courts, there are also fae that are unaffiliated to these groups. These independent fae tend to be stronger, as they need to be more powerful in order to survive without the support of a larger group. These fae are often seen as fierce and untamed, with a wild spirit that sets them apart from their court-affiliated counterparts. However, this independence also means that they are more vulnerable to the dangers and challenges of the Fae Realms, and they must rely on their own cunning and strength to survive. Groups of fae who come together are referred to as "Bouquets." The leadership of these Bouquets is always subject to challenge, and the winner of such challenges is marked with magical tattoos, which serve as symbols of their victory and dominance. On the other hand, defeat means death. ............................................................................ As Harper lay in bed, her mind couldn't help but wander to the changes she noticed in Landon. The tattoos and scars on his body were new, and their meanings were not lost on her. She knew that Landon was once a member of the Winter Court, but had chosen to wander on his own for a while, unaffiliated with any group. She wondered if he had drawn a following and formed his own bouquet. The thought of Landon leading a group of fae was a new and intriguing concept to Harper. She knew that the leadership of a bouquet could be challenged at any time, and victory was marked on the winner's body in the form of magical tattoos. The thought of Landon being challenged, or even being the one to challenge another bouquet, was frightening. Harper couldn't shake the feeling that something was going on in the fae world, and that Landon was at the center of it. Was he being challenged internally? Was he being attacked by other bouquets? Or was he consolidating his power by attacking other bouquets? The questions swirled in Harper's mind, leaving her feeling uneasy and concerned for Landon's well-being. ............................................................................ All fae are known to be capricious and unpredictable, constantly shifting and changing as they see fit. Winter fae, however, are particularly known for their dangerous nature, hiding their sharp and lethal edges behind a charming smile. Their reputation for being cold and calculating has earned them a fearsome reputation in the fae realms, and many fear crossing them. Despite their unpredictable nature, it is rumored that winter fae are masters of strategy and always have a plan up their sleeve, making them a formidable force to be reckoned with. Winter fae are typically known for their cool and calculating nature, as well as their deadly precision. They are often seen as mysterious and unpredictable, with a calm exterior that conceals a tempestuous inner strength. Winter fae are often masters of illusions, misdirection, and cunning, using their wits and witchery to get what they want. They are not afraid to take risks, and they do not hesitate to use their power to achieve their goals, even if it means hurting those around them. Despite their cold demeanor, winter fae are fiercely loyal to their own kind, and they will not hesitate to protect those who are part of their inner circle. Autumn fae are seen as the life of the party, always full of energy, wit, and charisma. They are natural leaders, and they draw people towards them with their magnetic personality. They are passionate about life, and they are always looking for new experiences and new thrills. Autumn fae are often skilled in the arts, such as music, dance, and poetry, and they use their talents to charm and beguile those around them. However, they can also be impulsive and unpredictable, and they are not always the most dependable of creatures. Spring fae are often seen as carefree, lighthearted, and full of life. They are known for their love of beauty, nature, and all things that bring joy and happiness to those around them. They are often skilled in the healing arts, using their magic to soothe the wounds of others and bring light to dark places. Spring fae are also very creative and imaginative, and they are often inspired by the world around them to create art, music, and stories. Despite their lighthearted nature, spring fae are also fiercely protective of those they care about, and they will not hesitate to use their powers to defend the innocent. Summer fae are known for their strength, courage, and determination. They are often seen as the warriors of the fae realm, using their power to protect those around them and fight against evil. Summer fae are often skilled in the use of fire magic, and they are not afraid to use their powers to smite their enemies. Despite their fearsome reputation, summer fae are also known for their kindness and compassion, and they are often sought after as allies by those in need. They are not easily swayed by flattery or temptation, and they remain steadfast in their beliefs and values, even in the face of great danger. ............................................................................ Harper sat across from Landon in his plush living room, surrounded by books and artifacts from his travels. She had always found it intriguing how he managed to gather such a vast collection of items from all corners of the world. Landon was reclining on the couch, his shirt off and revealing the intricate tattoos that marked his skin. Harper couldn't help but be drawn to them, tracing the lines with her eyes and trying to decipher the meaning behind each one. "So, you've started your own bouquet?" Harper asked, breaking the silence. Landon raised an eyebrow, a smirk playing on his lips. "You always were quick, Harper." Harper rolled her eyes, not in the mood for his usual flirtatiousness. "I mean, why did you decide to start your own? I thought you were content to wander on your own." Landon chuckled, leaning forward and resting his arms on his knees. "I was, for a while. But, as they say, too much of a good thing can get boring." He shrugged, a hint of sadness in his eyes. "I needed a new challenge, something to keep me occupied." Harper nodded, understanding. She knew Landon well enough to know that he was never one to stay in one place for too long. He always needed something new, something to keep him entertained. Harper could sense the pride in his voice, and she couldn't help but feel a sense of admiration for him. Despite his carefree nature, Landon was a strong and capable leader. "I'm glad it's going well for you," she said, her voice soft. Landon's gaze turned towards her, his eyes searching hers. "And what about you, Harper? How have you been?" Harper felt a pang of sadness in her chest, knowing that she couldn't share the truth with Landon. Not yet, anyway. "I've been good, just busy with work and everything." Landon frowned, sensing that she wasn't being entirely truthful. But he didn't push, instead opting to change the subject. "Well, I'm glad to have you here, even if it is under these circumstances." Harper smiled, grateful for the reprieve. "I'm glad to be here, too." Harper couldn't help but feel a twinge of pride for Landon. Despite his dangerous reputation, she knew deep down he was still the same person she had fallen in love with. But at the same time, she couldn't shake off the fear of what he had become. She was well aware of the dangers that came with leading a bouquet in the fae realms. "Just be careful, Landon," she warned softly. "You never know when someone might challenge you or try to take your bouquet." Landon's eyes glinted with amusement. "Don't worry about me, Harper. I can handle myself." He leaned in, his voice lowering to a husky whisper. "Besides, I have something worth fighting for now." Harper backpedaled, trying to keep away from a flirting Landon. Glancing at Landon with a mix of curiosity and concern, she couldn't help but wonder about the fae that surrounded him, who they were and what their motivations were. "So, Landon, tell me about your bouquet," she asked, trying to keep her voice steady. Landon chuckled. "I've always been one for variety. And let's be honest, it can get pretty boring being on your own all the time. I figured it would be more fun to have a group of misfits to play with." "Mischief and mayhem, that sounds like you," Harper said with a smile. "Exactly," Landon said, his eyes shining with amusement. "And to be honest, I've never been one for obedience. I've always preferred to march to the beat of my own drum. So, when I came across a few fae who felt the same way, I figured why not form our own bouquet?" Harper nodded, understanding his reasoning. "Well, it seems like it's working for you. How many are in your bouquet now?" "We've got a good number," Landon said, his expression becoming more serious. "But I won't lie, it's not always easy. Fae can be capricious and unpredictable, especially when it comes to power and leadership. But I've got a good group of warriors, and we've been able to fend off any challenges so far." "I see," Harper said, her mind racing with all the new information. "It must be quite the adventure leading a bouquet like that." "It certainly keeps things interesting," Landon said with a grin. "But enough about me, let's talk about you. How's the healing coming along?" ............................................................................ As Harper began to gather her belongings, she felt a hand gently grasp her arm. She turned to see Landon standing close, his eyes twinkling with amusement. "So soon?" he asked, his voice low and playful. "I was just starting to enjoy having you here, Harper." Harper felt her cheeks flush with embarrassment. She didn't know how to respond to Landon's flirting, especially given the complex feelings she had for him. "I'm feeling much better now, thank you," she said, trying to keep her voice even. Landon leaned in closer, a hint of a smirk on his face. "Are you sure you're ready to leave? I'd hate for you to leave before experiencing everything my home has to offer." Harper felt a flutter in her stomach as she looked into Landon's eyes. She couldn't deny the chemistry between them, but she also couldn't ignore the fact that she was seeing someone else. "I think it's best if I go," she said softly, taking a step back. Landon chuckled, still holding her gaze. "Well, if you ever change your mind, you know where to find me." And with that, he let go of her arm and stepped back, giving her a little bow. Harper took a deep breath and gathered the rest of her belongings, her heart racing as she tried to make her escape. As she turned to leave, she couldn't help but feel a twinge of regret at leaving Landon behind. But she knew that it was for the best, at least for now. ............................................................................ Landon watched as Harper gathered her things, a thrill of the hunt running through him at the thought of chasing after her. He couldn't help but feel a little amused at the idea that she thought she could just leave so easily. He had other duties that currently took precedence over her, but he made a mental note to himself to find out more about the current lover she had mentioned. Despite his amusement, there was a cold viciousness that ran through him at the thought of hunting down and killing all the members of Jasper's following. He was a force to be reckoned with and he wouldn't hesitate to do what was necessary to protect his own. As Harper left, he couldn't help but feel a sense of longing, but he pushed it down. There would be time for that later, after he took care of his other responsibilities.
