Building Bridges

Harper stepped out of the car and took a deep breath, the fresh air felt good after being cooped up in Landon's mansion for what felt like an eternity. She still couldn't believe how much had changed in such a short period of time. She looked up at her apartment building, the familiarity of it comforting her. She was excited to be back home. She walked up the steps, taking her time to enjoy the sensation of the wind on her skin. She unlocked the door to her apartment, pushed it open and was greeted by the sound of silence. Sweet, sweet silence. It only reaffirmed that getting her own place had been one of the best decisions that Harper had made. She decided to take a quick shower, to freshen up and wash away the memories of the past few days. She let the warm water flow over her, closing her eyes and letting out a deep sigh of relief. She felt like a weight had been lifted off her shoulders and she was finally able to breathe. Harper emerged from the shower, feeling refreshed and ready to face the world again. She dressed, then headed to the kitchen to make a cup of tea. She settled down on the couch and let her mind wander, she couldn't help but think about Landon. She was attracted to him, she couldn't deny it, but she was also scared. She had never met someone so powerful and mysterious, it was both exhilarating and terrifying. She couldn't help but wonder what his intentions were. Harper was brought back to reality by the sound of her phone ringing. It was Maxine, checking in on her. Harper smiled, it was good to hear from her friend and to know that she was okay. ............................................................................ As Harper sat in her office with Maxine, she could feel the weight of recent events still heavy on her mind. Maxine, sensing her friend's distress, began the conversation. "Harper, I just want to say that I am so proud of you for handling everything with such grace and strength. It takes a lot of courage to face danger head on and come out on the other side. I know it's easy to get caught up in the moment and forget about your own well-being, but it's important to prioritize your safety. You need to make sure you're taking care of yourself, Harper." Harper nodded in agreement, adding her own thoughts on the subject. "I completely agree, Maxine. It's not just about me, though. We need to make sure that we're all taking care of each other and supporting one another, especially after such a difficult time." Harper smiled warmly at Maxine. "I know, and I appreciate your concern. But I also want to make sure that you're okay. You've been such a great friend and support for me, and I want to return the favor." Maxine smiled back at Harper, grateful for her kind words. "Thanks, Harper. That means a lot to me. We're in this together." ............................................................................ As Harper arrived back at her apartment, she was greeted by the smell of freshly baked cookies wafting through the air. She walked in to find her elder sister Ava sitting in the living room with a tray of treats. Ava turned around with a stern look on her face, scolding Harper for not reaching out to her after the attack by Jasper. "Harper, what's the point of belonging to a coven if you don't rely on us in times of need?" Ava asked, handing her a cookie. "I didn't want to burden anyone," Harper replied, taking a bite of the warm and gooey treat. "You're my sister, you're never a burden. And besides, that's what a coven is for. To support each other and keep each other safe," Ava said, settling back into the couch. Harper smiled, feeling a sense of comfort wash over her. Ava had always been there for her, and she was grateful for her presence now more than ever. "I'm fine now," Harper said, taking another bite of the cookie. "But thank you for coming to check on me." "Of course," Ava replied, patting her hand. "I'll always be here for you, no matter what." They spent the next hour chatting and catching up, with Ava filling Harper in on what had been going on in their hometown. Harper told Ava about her recent visit with Landon and the events that had led up to it. Ava listened attentively, offering words of support and encouragement. By the time Ava had to leave, Harper felt better than she had in days. She hugged her sister tightly, feeling grateful for her unwavering love and support. "Promise me you'll reach out to us next time," Ava said, before leaving. "I promise," Harper replied, with a smile. Harper settled down for bed, reflecting on her relationship with her elder sister. Ava was always there for her when she needed it, even if she was an absolute menace the rest of the time.
