Maybe the journey isn't so much about becoming anything. Maybe it's about unbecoming everything that isn't really you, so you can be who you were meant to be in the first place.

Neith's Pov
The day of my birthday had arrived and I was slightly intimidated by the way the palace elaborately decorated.
Simply saying it is beautiful is putting it lightly, very lightly.
The whole palace was decorated in shades of blues', purples, reds', oranges', pinks' and every other color to ever exist. The air was heavily perfumed by so many scents that it made me slightly nauseous.
I was positive Aahotep was planning something as all the neighbouring kingdoms were invited, but I didn't care. I was gonna make him regret this.
I was asked to stay indoors so I wouldn't tamper with the decorations. I rolled my eyes, he was over thinking too much. I wouldn't do something that menial.
I walked over to my bed and picked up a very heavy shiny piece of cloth. It was supposed to be a type of dress I had to wear for the evening celebrations.
I eyes the garment. I had to say it was quite beautiful but that didn't mean it was convenient or practical in any way.
The two piece dress type thing was a beautiful light green that seemed to emphasis my dark skin tone. The top half was plain and would reside two inches above my belly button.
The bottom was a floor length skirt which was in the same color as the top but had a lot of detailed embroidery with studded gems.
To match this was a thick collar gold neck piece and a matching gold arm chain. If this wasn't enough already, I needed to wear a crown.
I looked at that head piece sitting on the side table of the bed. The Golden Crown of Egypt. There were two parts to it.
The first was the crown itself. The carvings on it gave the circular shaped gold piece an elegant look. The second part was what made this crown crazy. Two ostrich feathers placed on either side of the crown made it seem so huge. The tips were dipped in gold and hence it glittered from high above. Anyone wearing this outrageous thing would definitely get all the attention as soon as they walked in a room.
Most people would have been attracted to it but I wasn't. Wearing that would mean that I was queen and that's something I dreaded.
I placed back the top carefully on the bed and walked to the balcony. Looking out I saw all the servants run from one end to the other, preparing and cleaning the place. The gardens were watered and the bushes trimmed. Was it really necessary too do all this just for a birthday celebration that wasn't wanted?
I was lost in my own thoughts before a voice made me turn around.
"You should smile a little you know. It's your birthday after all," the woman who entered said mockingly.
"Anka!" I screamed and ran towards her, throwing my hands around her neck and embracing her in a hug. She laughed and hugged me harder.
"You're late," I said, releasing my embrace.
"Well I was you know, talking with Ammon for a bit," she said blushing slightly.
I giggled, "ya sure, whatever you say."
She elbowed me in the gut and I fell on the bed crying out in pain. She rolled her eyes at me being over dramatic and I laughed.
"Wow! This is so beautiful," Anka exclaimed as she touched the dress on the bed, her eyes glowing at the sight.
"It's not too bad," I said, looking at it. Anka would definitely appreciate the dress so much more than me.
"You're going to look so beautiful wearing this. I bet Aahotep would be swooning over you all night," she said winking at me and than giggled
"Who said I was going to wear it," I said winking back at her.
"Neith, what are you planning?" Anka asked, looking extremely worried.
"Nothing much. Just going to play a small prank on him that's all," I say mischievously.
"Ah, no you aren't. This is an important day you i***t. All the neighbouring kingdoms royals are coming and don't you dare do anything to upset anyone," she fumed.
"Hey, I never asked for a celebration. That narcissist did it all against my will and he expects me to laid back about it? I will defiantly make him regret doing something I didn't want to be a part off," I shot back. I knew deep in my heart I probably shouldn't interfere but if not now than when?
He married me against my will, locked me up in a fancy place and made sure I never spoke about father than he claims to have killed him and now this. Would he ever stop? Hopefully after tonight he would see me as a threat and not some slave he could order around as he wishes.
Anka shook her head. "He probably did it for a reason. Don't you think you should give his the benefit of the doubt?"
"No, I will not," I say sharply. I hadn't told Anka about the incident where Aahotep told he killed my father. I didn't want her to worry about me.
"Why do you hate him so much? The only thing he did was marry you. He never touched you against your will. He is such a nice guy and yet you always get angry with him. Why don't you try and give him a chance?" Anka said as she placed a hand on my shoulder.
I sighed. Deep down I knew she was right and I had a feeling that Aahotep wasn't the bad guy he portrayed to be but I still wanted him to understand that when I say no than I mean it. I was about to reply when I heard a loud knock on the door.
"Come in," I said.
Maiu entered through the double doors sheepishly.
"Um... the pharaoh sent me to help you get ready," she said keeping her head bent.
I smirked, "Its all right Maiu, Anka is there to help me so you can go get some rest. You must be exhausted from all the work you had to do."
She lifted her head in surprise,
"But-"
"No excuses. Now go enjoy the rest of your day off," I say in a happy voice. She stood still for a bit before she gave a bow and left.
"I am most definitely not going to sit here and watch this," Anka said irritated.
"Fine then you can also leave," I say, turning around so that I didn't have to face her.
"Fine!" she said angrily and stomped off. Why does she have to be such a spoilt sport? I did feel a little bad about doing this but decided not to think about it.
I took a quick bath and dried myself. I attempted to put my hair in an elegant bun but it turned up to look like an abandoned bird's nest. So much for looking like a warrior woman with good hair.
I dressed in my training gear and put a sword at my side. Yes, this was how I planned to enter. Now the last thing I had to put on was the crown. I took the heavy thing in my hands.
Good Lord. Why was this thing so heavy?
I so didn't want to wear it, but I had too. Then only would they know I was the "Queen". I placed it on my head.
How does one balance this on their head? I should have practiced this part.
I walked to the floor length mirror that I had pushed to the far end of the room.
I wasn't too happy at the person who stared back. A coal faced being with big brown eyes stared back at me. The white top and matching bottom only made me look even darker. Like the night adored by the moon was the perfect way to describe what I was seeing. The crown was so huge that it wasn't fully visible in the mirror.
A mischievous smile crept along my face. This was going to be fun.

THE GRAND HALL
Aahotep had every other person invited was gathered in this hall.
I had been to the Grand hall a couple of times and that word doesn't do it justice. The sky high walls were colored a pale yellow. The pillars and the dome shaped ceiling was painted gold. The dome had various paintings drawn on. It was as if they told an ancient story to anyone looking at them.
Even though I stood quite a distance from the Grand Hall I could see how lavishly it was decorated. The smell of food instantly hit me, blessing my nose.
As I walked towards the hall, the servants all gaped at me. I tried to remain impassive and collected but inside I was freaking out.
Perhaps this wasn't such a good idea.
My pace slowed drastically as I neared the hall. While I was contemplating whether or not I wanted to continue with my mad plan I found a myself being blocked my a tall person. Looking up my heart slightly sank.
Standing in a pure white silk top and a matching bottom stood the one person I didn't wish to see so soon.
Aahotep.
His long gold chain with a giant emerald at the centre along with his double ended crown it real. He definitely was a King.
He looked so simple and elegant, so graceful and powerful all at the same time.
I was very tempted to run back to my room and change but I held my ground.
You are so done for.
"Hello," I said with as much confidence as I could muster.
Aahotep gave he a death glare that would have made most people run for the hills but I wasn't most people so I glared back but not as intensely as his.
"Room now," Aahotep said and dragged me to nearest room that was in sight.
"Are you out of your mind! Do you never use that gigantic head of yours or is it only active to insult me," he yelled so loud I involuntarily shuddered.
"You're the one who started it. I told you that I didn't want this party but no, you went against my will and did all this. Do you know how it feels like to be born on the day your mother died?" I screamed back.
"No, I don't know how it is but I do know how it feels like to lose a parent so if I went and did all this even though I knew it would hurt you then you should also know I had a reason behind it. It is so that Egypt or any other nation never had to fight again. To bring peace to all our lands, that was the purpose of this celebration. I used your birthday as an opportunity and I am deeply sorry but it had to be done and now you could have just ruined what me, your father and my father had been planning for years thanks to your stupid little act," he shot back.
"My father? What do you mean by that and how will my birthday party help bring peace?" I asked confused.
Aahotop cursed under his breath. It looks like he slipped up and said something he wasn't meaning to.
"Just go back to your room and change quickly. I don't have the time to explain things to you right now. I need to go and keep the this party from falling apart," he said and left while I stared at him.
What in the world did he mean?
I was so confused that I just stood there for a while before leaving.
"Looks like someone knocked some sense into you," I heard the familiar voice.
Anka.
"Were you the one who informed him I was up to something?" I asked eyeing her suspiciously.
"Of course. Who else is gonna save your sorry bottom? Now lets go. I promised Aahotep I would help you get you ready before this century passes," Anka said and dragged me towards my room.
Although I was angry at her for snitching on me I couldn't help but appreciate it. It was because of her I could confirm my theory. Aahotep wasn't the one to kill my father. There was something else going on and I was going to find out what it is.
We went back to my room and Anka was about to strip me before a brilliant idea occurred.
"Hold on. I will be right back," I said to Anka before running off.
This was my chance. I had to utilities this moment.
I could find what was going on and perhaps get some sort of news regarding father. Since Aahotep would be busy this was the perfect time to break into his room.
I sprinted across the hall to the other side where his room was situated.
How did I not think of this before? This was such a brilliant idea.
I stopped dead in my track. Aahotep's room door was opened and I could here voices inside.
Did someone beat me to it?
Being ultra careful I tip toed and peeked inside.
From what I could see Aahotep sat on a chair and there seemed to be a man who wore black from head to toe.
I knew this type of men. They were spies for the Pharaoh. Extremely intelligent and possessed a variety of skills. Above all they are loyal only to the pharaoh and no one else. I wonder what such a man was doing with Aahotep at this time.
I leaned in to hear what they were talking about.
Aahotep: What was so urgent that you couldn't wait until the celebration was done?
Masked man: I am sorry Sire but it is regarding the death of Adio so I thought you might want an update.
My heart beat accelerated.
Why were they talking about Father?
Aahotep: Did you find any leads?
Masked man: Yes, we suspect that the killer was a green alien from Mars.
A/n:
Wow guess you weren't expecting that huh . Nah I'm just kidding . Don't hate me just yet. Please continue reading.
Aahotep: Did you find any leads?
Masked man: Yes, Sire. We believe that it could be Jabari.
No, no way. It couldn't be.
My heart sank into the abyss of the underworld. It was impossible. How could Anka's father and one of the council members be involved in my father's death? Was he the killer? What in Aten's name is going on?
Actual A/n
