“We have to go after them,” said Ben.
He kindly did not add “to trade you for them.”
“Yes,” I said, swinging wide to take us into a U-turn and start us back down the hill.
“We could have just taken the next left,” said Ben.
“We have to approach via the school,” I said, scraping one hubcap on the curb as I finished the turn.
“Why?”
“Because that’s where the entrance to the Sliver Warehouse is, and the only way we’re going to save the others is by taking them all out, directly at the source.”
Ben laughed, but not the sort of laugh that could be counted as a post-pod recovery milestone. “And that’s going to work this time, and not all the other times we’ve invaded the Warehouses, because…?”
“Because my dad told me how to do it,” I said.
Ben was silent for a moment.
