~OCTOBER
"Wow, October! You're getting married to Hades - that's quite the choice!" Ava, the youngest daughter, finally broke her silence, her eyes boring into me with a strange intensity. Unlike her mother and two older sisters, Ava didn't seem to be involved in their schemes, but I knew she had no love for me, either.
"Father...Father, please," I begged, tears streaming down my face. "I don't care what my people thinks, or what anyone else says. I can't marry Hades - he's a wild beast! I've heard rumors about the things he does when his temper flares. He does not claim himself as a prince"
"You can't back out now, October. My decision is final. I'm not going to turn down a royal family's request just because you have a fear of marriage. You should be happy that we're going to be part of the royal family, even though we don't live in the royal town. They've considered us worthy, despite the fact that we're witches from a third part and you definitely know about witches in our society"
"I know you're doing this for the good of our family, Father, but please consider my feelings," I said, tears streaming down my face. "I can't marry someone like Hades. I don't care about being part of the royal family. I just want to be happy, and I know I won't be if I have to marry him."
"Lock her in her room until the wedding day," my father told my stepmother. He rose from his seat without even looking at me. I felt like an object being bartered away, with no say in my own future.
He hates me!
"Father, please," I sobbed, my voice cracking with emotion. I sank to my knees and reached out to him, but he turned his back on me and walked away. My stepmother's smile was full of cruel satisfaction as she watched me fall apart. "Lock her up," she ordered my sisters and walked off.
"It's so sad, October," Sage said mockingly, bending down to pull at a loose strand of my hair. "You're getting married! I'm so jealous." Her words dripped with sarcasm, and I knew I was about to be tormented by them.
"As soon as your wedding is over, mine will be next. And Hades won't kill you at all just like he did to his mother."Anne whispered sweetly"I have never met him but I have a good feeling about this"
My tears fell as I tried to scramble away from their taunts. Ava sat nearby, murmuring an incantation as she crushed an apple in her hand. I knew she could use her magic to hurt me if she wanted to, and she seemed to enjoy watching my torment. She had no compassion for me, and her eyes were cold and empty.
"I've never seen your husband-to-be," Sage mused, pinching her chin thoughtfully. "I wonder what he looks like?" She smirked.
"He's probably hideous, with big eyes and an enormous nose."
Anne shook her head, but her expression was dark. "You can't say that, sister! It's not kind, even if he is a beast."
"Oh, come on!" Sage retorted, rolling her eyes. "He's probably worse than that.
"You should take her away before she escapes," Ava said, her voice sharp.
"No, no!" I protested, but my voice was small and weak. I tried to back away from the group, but I knew it was useless.
"Guards!" Anne shouted, her voice cold and commanding. I felt my heart sink as I realized that this was what they wanted all along. I would finally be out of their lives.
"No please..."I pleaded as they grab me by the arm and pulled me down to my room
"No, please!" I begged, but my words fell on deaf ears. Two guards grabbed my arms and dragged me down the hallway toward my room. I struggled, but their grip was too strong. I felt completely helpless, and I could feel panic rising in my chest.
"Stop!" I cried, thrashing in the guards' grip. "Please, just listen to me!" But they ignored me, and I could feel myself being pulled further and further away from any chance of escape.
I was roughly thrown into my room, and they slammed the door shut and locked it behind me. I knew there was no point in shouting or trying to be clever. There was only one door to my room, and it was impossibly heavy. The window was so small, I couldn't even fit my head through it. I felt trapped and helpless.
Oh heavens my powers don't even work
I peered through the peephole and saw guards standing outside my room. I sighed and sat down, trying to calm myself. I had to do something, I couldn't marry Hades. I wanted to talk to my father or go back to my mother. If he was so desperate to get rid of me, I wish he would just send me back to her.
I grabbed the large rock that sat by my bedside and prepared to use it to create a distraction. I slammed it against the door several times, wincing at the sound. I heard the guards grumbling outside, and then the sound of the door being unlocked
I stammered, "W-water...p-please. Get me some water." The guards looked at each other, and one of them finally turned and left the room. I could hear his footsteps in the hallway, and I waited with bated breath.
I kept my expression as neutral as possible, trying not to let the guard see my desperation. I sat still for a few minutes, but I could feel my nerves starting to fray. Finally, the guard looked away from me and toward the door. In a flash, I grabbed his legs and yanked him off balance. He toppled to the ground, and I used the moment of confusion to bolt for the door. I sprinted down the hallway, my heart pounding in my chest.
"She is escaping" I hea his voice shouting behind me, and I knew the guard was giving chase. I sprinted as fast as I could, my breath coming in ragged gasps. Suddenly, I reached a dead end. I turned and saw the guard running toward me, his face red with rage. My mind raced, trying to think of a way out.
I turned the corner and nearly ran into my father and his guests. They were all dressed in their finest clothes, and their eyes widened in surprise when they saw me. My father looked at me in shock, and I knew I was in trouble.
"What on earth are you doing?" he demanded, his voice cold. "You're supposed to be in your room!"
I felt my heart sink as I looked at him. How could I explain myself?
My heart was pounding in my chest as I looked up at my father, pleading with him to understand. "Please, Father," I begged. "I don't want to get married. I just want to be with my mother."
He looked down at me with a stern expression, and I felt my hope fade. "You have a duty to this family," he said, his voice hard. "You will marry Lord Hades, and that is final and there is no way you are humiliating me October."He whispered keeping a distance from his guests
Tears started to fall down my cheeks as I realized there was no way out.
"Father, please," I pleaded, my voice breaking as tears streamed down my cheeks. "I know she told you to do this. I know how much she hates me, and I know that you don't feel the same way about me anymore. You don't have a part of me in you anymore, because of her."
"October she is your mother she was there when your foolish mother abandoned you"he said sharply
"I don't care about this family, or anyone else," I said, my voice shaking. "Nobody has ever cared about me. Please send me to my mother and free me from these witches."
"How dare you?" he spat, his anger palpable. A thunderous slap resounded across my face, sending me reeling.
Slowly, I raised my eyes to meet his, my disgust clear. In that moment, I hated him more than anyone else in the world.
