Chapter Nine: Does he like me?

1062 Words
~OCTOBER I turned to see the source but the room was empty, it was only me in here. "My father wants me to give you this"The source of the deep voice made me flinch almost loosing my balance. It was Hades, and he was staring at me with a look that made my blood run cold. His voice was sharp as a blade Where did he come from? How does he gets in without my notice? And the mirror to the other side of the room? I stood there, frozen in place. The silence was deafening, and I could feel my heart pounding in my chest. I tentatively took the box from him and unwrapped it. Inside was a delicate bracelet made of flowers, so intricate and beautiful that it took my breath away. As I looked around the room, I realized maybe everything was from his father "Thank you"I said almost inaudibly He never replied back he only turned his back at me and aimed for the door "Wait," I said, my voice barely above a whisper. I took a deep breath, trying to steady my nerves. "I think we should talk. I mean...." I could feel my heart pounding in my chest. I wasn't sure if I could do this, but I had to try. "You talk too much" he said, his voice flat and emotionless. "You're here because my father wants you here. And he always gets what he wants." His words made me shiver. And it hurts too I stood frozen in place as Hades turned and left the room without another word. As the door closed behind him, I felt my knees give way and I sank into the chair in front of the mirror. I let out a long, shaky breath. This was going to be harder than I thought. ****** I turned over in the comfy bed, still half-asleep, and then it hit me. I wasn't at home. I was somewhere else, somewhere unfamiliar. Slowly, I opened my eyes, and the sun streamed in through the window, making me squint. I heard the no chirps of birds outside, and for a moment, I was disoriented, trying to remember where I was. "Yes am married" I pulled my legs out from under the covers and sat up in bed. As I did, I inhaled the sweet fragrance of flowers that filled the room. It was such a comforting scent. All of a sudden, the events of the yesterday came rushing back to me. Hades had made it clear that he wasn't interested in this marriage. It was obvious that he was only doing it because his father had made him. As I lay there, I wondered how much of his life was dictated by his father's commands. What other secrets was he keeping? I felt so many questions swirling in my head, and I didn't know where to start. I stood up, my mind still reeling from the events of the previous day. As I looked in the mirror, I wondered how my life had gotten to this point. Back home, I would stay in my room all day, only coming out when my parents called me to be punished. But here, in this strange new place, what would happen? What did people do here? ••• A few hours later, I found myself outside, and everything looked exactly the same as it had the day before. It was just as quiet and still as it had been when I first arrived. It felt like this place was frozen in time. Even the birds seemed to be silent, as if they were afraid to make a sound. I couldn't help but feel like I had stepped into a strange and eerie world where nothing ever changed. I didn't know what to do. If I called out for Jeffery, would he appear? Maybe he wouldn't even hear me. But I had to try something. "Jeffery?" I called out hesitantly. There was no response. The silence was deafening. "My lady," he said, startling me and making my heart skip a beat. "Jeffery," I mumbled, feeling a bit sheepish at being caught talking to myself. "My apologies," he said, bowing his head. "Please stop doing that," I said. "Can you just walk into a room or down the stairs like a normal person?" "Of course," Jeffery replied. "Would you like to have breakfast? It's ready to be served." I glanced around the castle, but there was no sign of Hades. I wondered where he was. "No, it's fine. I would like to take a walk around here," I said, feeling a need to stretch my legs after being cooped up for so long. "Of course," Jeffery replied. I walked outside, and the guards bowed as I passed them. It felt a little strange, being treated like a princess, but I tried to ignore it and focus on exploring the grounds. From the outside, the castle looked even more magnificent than I had imagined. It was breathtakingly beautiful, and the wedding carriage still stood at the front gate, a reminder of the night before. A smile crossed my face as I took in the view. In the distance, I could see the town, but it looked far away and small in comparison to the vastness of the castle grounds. The hills surrounding the castle were lush and green, adding to the sense of tranquility and isolation. As I continued to explore, I wondered if there were any gardens or birds in the area. A bit of nature would really make this place even more beautiful, and I could imagine sitting outside and reading a book while birds chirped in the trees. It would be the perfect place to relax. I walked further and came across a large crenelated window far from the castle grounds. From the ground level, I could see a tall figure standing in one of the windows, looking out at the world below. "Hades?" I gasped, my voice barely above a whisper. This must be 'his room, his private sanctuary' just like Jeffery i thought. But even as the idea occurred to me, I found myself shaking my head. I knew it was a bad idea to go up there, but the temptation was too much. With a mischievous laugh, I said, "I'm going up there."
