"Why would that play a part in my fainting?" I asked curiously. I was by no stretch of the imagination what you would call a graceful person. Accident prone, clumsy, those descriptions suited me better. My mother used to tell me that I would trip over air. She would thank the Goddess, I had werewolf healing abilities. Otherwise, she would have had to bubble wrap me.
A small smile comes to my mouth but makes me sad at the same time. it is what always happens when I think of my mother. It is clear that I missed what the doctor said because both he and Victor are staring at me, waiting to answer. "Um... sorry, I got lost in thought."
The doctor smiled. "It's OK. What I was saying is that it is not uncommon for the mind to protect itself after traumatic experiences. The body can be affected when that happens. It is my understanding that you have been through a lot of trauma lately. What I asked you is what you were thinking of when you fainted?"
I took a deep breath, trying to steel myself to think of him without the searing pain. "My mate," my voice got smaller as I looked down at my hands.
The doctor took my hand and held it gently. "Whoever said time heals all wounds is lying. Some wounds never heal. But time can help you deal with them better."
I smiled at him, small but he deserved it. I knew he was a good man. He had dark hair with streaks of grey, tanned skin, and brown eyes. Some lines around them, but I would maybe put him at 50. He was big as usual for a wolf, and I don't think he had a mean bone in his body.
Curiosity got the better of me yet again. "What is your name? I don't think I got it."
The doctor laughed. "I guess I forgot that part. When my nephew brings someone in, I stop paying attention to everything else. " My name is Everett, and I prefer to go by my first name. If you really got to be formal, you can put doc in front of it. "
I laughed too. It felt surreal after everything that has happened, but it felt nice. "Well thank you. It has been a moment of light in all the darkness."
At that moment, Victor stood up looking angry. "So I can take her back?" he asked his uncle. Everett nodded "Yes she is good to go." He gave me a quick smile before headed for the door. "I will see you at dinner tomorrow" and left.
Was he talking to me? Couldn't have been. Must be Victor. After all, he his uncle. They must do family dinner.
With just the two of us, I didn't know what to do. I didn't move, didn't speak, I just laid in silence. Seemed safer.
Victor huffed "are you waiting for a formal invitation? let's go!"
Well it was nice while it lasted. At least I had one last conversation before I was jailed again...or worse.
We walked out of the building. Well Victor walked, I had to lightly jog to keep up with him. Even though I ate the jail food. Water, bread, and a little meat wasn't cutting it and I was getting light headed.
I stopped, out of breath. I put my hands on my knees with a slight lean forward. "Can you slow down?" I panted at him.
I didn't see his reaction. He was too far ahead and I didn't want to give him the satisfaction.
The next thing I knew, I was in his arms again. Annoyance took over. "I can walk."
"Didn't look like it to me,"
I snapped "Well not only am I eating for me and my pup, but the food was not the most nourishing!"
I waited for him to explode. Nothing. He continued in silence up to the house. I took the opportunity to look at him. From far away, his eyes were brown, but a closer look showed that they were lighter, with flecks of green in them. They were quite mesmerizing. He looked down at me. Saw me staring. I blushed a little at being caught. His face revealed nothing, but I got the impression he was waiting for me again.
I looked around. We were in a bedroom. A beautiful bedroom. Lots of plants and windows as were in the rest of the house but this time the walls were paint navy blue. The contrast of the green and blue was stunning.
Victor put me down. I continued to look, but this didn't make sense to me. It was time to know what was going on.
"Why am I here?" I asked him. I had put a little distance between us. Just in case that bloodlust took over.
"I told you, you stink. The shower is through that door, " he pointed behind me.
I didn't turn to look. The truth was more important. "No, why am I here? In your house? Not in the prison? Not being tortured or killed?"
"Do you want those things to happen to you?"
He could be so frustrating.
"You know I don't, but it would be in your right as Alpha of the winning pack. So why don't you tell me what is going on!" I was screaming at the end. This was its own form of torture.
He shortened the distance in two strides until he was standing directly in front of me. He paused for a moment, then two. He was so calm, but the silence was too much. My irritation was growing. Just as I was about to open my mouth, he spoke.
"I want you to be my Luna"
