Chapter 2
Lycan king Jaxel arrived at the palace in a nice chariot with an envious entourage. His chariots were adorned with gold, silver and diamonds and his horses were very rare and expensive ones.
The men that accompanied him were tall and muscular with braid shoulders and well toned abs. He was short, a five foot three man with a long gray goatee and gray flowing hair. He had a big belly and he always wore a frown.
He entered the hall and sat on the nice chair Alpha Cole kept for him and his men surrounded him. Aloha Cole bowed when he came in.
“I’m sorry my king, your bride to be is with her mother, my Luna. She will be here anytime from now.”
In Lianna’s room, her mother stood behind her, arranging her hair while she sat in front of the mirror.
“Mom, what if I become a human someday? Can I come and take you to town?” Lianna asked.
“Sssshhhh!” Her mother countered. “You will not speak of that anymore, Young lady!. Is that understood?”
Lianna was stubborn.
“Mom, I think I am in love with a boy from there. If I get my wolf in King Jaxel’s pack, am I still allowed to go to the forest for an hour?”
Lianna’s mother paused. “I honestly do not know who is filling your head with these things. You will go to King Jaxel’s pack, marry him, love him and bear beautiful children for him. Case closed. Do as he commands and everyone goes home happy.”
Lianna bowed her head in sadness.
“But mom, you married for love, why do I have to marry for duty?” Lianna asked.
Her mother heaved and sat by her side.
“Even if you were to marry for love; it won’t be to a human. Humans and werewolves have no pace in this world as lovers. The lycan king will take care of you. You will grow to love him, you’ll see.”
That was all Lianna’s mother had to say.
After a while, Lianna was done and ready to meet the king. Lianna’s eldest sister led the entourage that led her to the lycan king. They rallied around him, curtsied, introduced themselves and left.
Each sister did this till it reached Lianna’s turn. Only that she did not go, she stood by his side and he held her hands and scanned her body with so much lust, admiration and satisfaction.
Lianna wished she could disappear, escape from this terrible nightmare as she tried to free herself from his clutches. His breath stank and he was old, wrinkly and wobbly.
The room stank of sweat from his cold body and every second she stood close to him, she wished the ground would open up and swallow her.
She needed air, fresh in polluted and clean air.
“She’s beautiful,” he said. Luna Collette bowed.
“After your daughter is married to me and we seal the deal to confirm she’s a virgin, your pack will have all you need. From wolf soldiers to food, access to cleaner water and development, I promise you,” Lycan king Jaxel promised. Alpha Cole and Luna Collette bowed to him.
“Thank you King Jaxel. We know you will keep to your promise. Our youngest gold here will be entrusted into your care in the next two days,” Alpha Cole said.
Lianna’s eyes grew wide. Two days?
“The ceremony will be held in the great scepter hall during the full moon. Here, you and my youngest daughter will be one in the eyes of the moon goddess and wolves from our both packs. We hope to flourish as in-laws and close other deals,” Alpha Cole continued.
The lycan king was pleased. He smiled and touched Lianna provocatively, not minding that her parents were there.
“And the damsel, I hope she is untouched? If I discover she is not pure I will send her back to you and wreck this kingdom if you dare try to deceive me.”
Alpha Cole was mute and Luna Collette replied. “She is purer than a new born baby and she has been kept and protected specially for you.”
The lycan king smiled again. “Good!”
He then motioned his hand and beckoned his men and they came forward from the carriage with bags of gold and silver. He handed them over to Alpha Cole.
“Some gold and diamond for you. This is just the beginning. Your pack will change as long as I’m your in-law.”
Lianna watched as her father got the gold and silver greedily and she felt anger in her heart. How could her father sell her like she was some sort of commodity?
She could not blame them though. If they did not agree, he would have bombarded the pack and taken her captive and her parents would’ve lost either way. After the brief exchange, discussion and introduction, Lycan King Jaxel had to leave.
“I have matters to tend to in my pack. I shall be here in a few days to wed this young flower under the moon and take her home to my abode.”
Alpha Cole and Luna Collette bowed and King Jaxel took his leave. He gave Lianna a peck on her cheek and left residues of saliva on her face that irritated her. He then entered his carriage and took off.
Immediately he left, Lianna burst into tears and ran to her room. She locked the door and pulled out the portrait of Ethan, the billionaire’s son which she drew. She kept looking at it and was sobbing.
Why had the moon goddess chosen to be unfair to her? She would do anything to be with this boy. Why was she not born a human? And why was her destiny to get married to an old, wrinkly, slobby, fat and stinky king instead of enjoying her life with a young boy.
She kissed the portrait and wished she could disappear into the human world. Suddenly she heard a knock on the door.
“Lianna! It’s me! Open up.”
She rolled her eyes but stood to open the door. Only her mother understood her. Her mother gave her a long hug before she spoke.
“I’m so sorry my sweetheart. I did not mean to do this. If I had my way I would’ve__”
Lianna cut in. “It’s okay, mom.”
Lianna kept looking at the prince’s portrait. Her mother felt torn. It was never the wish of any mother to see her daughter unhappy.
Every mother wanted their daughters to be loved and protected correctly. But not to an old, rude and flabby slob. And especially not as a concubine!
Then she thought of something. She could entice her daughter with something to make her smile.
“Lianna dear?”
Lianna looked up to her mother, her eyes crimson red.
“Say sweetheart, there’s a middle man going to town today, would you love to follow him past the bubble, just for a minute or two and then come back?”
Lianna could not believe her ears. Was her mother serious?
“Are you being serious mom?”
Her mother nodded. Lianna stopped crying and stood up to hug her mother. “Oh! Mom, you’re the best!”
Lianna and her mother sneakily stood at the supernatural borders. The middle man held her hands and they prepared to leave.
“Now remember sweetheart, it’s just a minute or two and come back. You’ve not yet had your wolf so you will still be in human form. Do not engage in any conversation with anyone.
Lianna nodded.
She followed the middleman past the bubble. She could not believe her eyes. Goosebumps were all over her body.
The air up here was different. It smelled… nicer! The middleman asked her to wait in the bushes for two minutes then go back. Her mother was waiting for her behind the bubble. The middle man left her afterwards.
As Lianna was perceiving the sweet small of human flowers, she saw someone. It was him. Ethan! He saw her too and he stopped to stare. He had never seen a woman so beautiful before. He decided to walk closer to Lianna.
Lianna ducked immediately, and ran back into the forest. She entered the bubble and into her mother’s arms. That was close!
