Chapter 27 Meeting with a Dragon

As the two nears the keep where Emrys lives they can some in the air and they can see the big main entrance is closed.  They walk around and enters the courtyard through a side door.  In the one corner they can see a heap of grey asses, in the middle of if it they can see something moving.  They see a naked well build young man in his twenties arise from the asses, small sparks fly through the air as a light breeze carry them.

The man turns around and is surprised by the two standing there, Clarise quickly turns around her face flushed with embarrassment.  The man walks over to a bench where a long coat is lying, he quickly gets dressed.  “Well, sorry you had to see that, I was not expecting you, when I’m in this state I can’t communicate with the forest or with its inhabitants so I didn’t know that you were on your way” he tries to explain.  “It’s fine, but are you okay?” Tyler asks concerned, he looks at Emrys up and down, his skin a light pink colour.

“I will be fine in a couple of seconds,” he waves it off, he looks over at Clarise, her back still turned on him.  “You can turn around now!” he says softly to her.  She turns around and looks into his big blue eyes, he has curly black hair and a surprisingly handsome face.

He points at Clarise you can go and start with your water control training while me and old Tyler is having a talk” he points to the basin.

He takes Tyler by his shoulder, “follow me!” he says walking in the direction of his workplace.   “I’m glad that you are here and that you are willing to train with Clarise, however there is a couple of things that you should know.”  He goes and stand behind a screen to get dressed in proper clouting, while he gets dressed, he explain to Tyler.  “You see, Clarise found her power in the pendant around her neck, even if her dad were a reaper the powers that she wields does not come natural to her the pendant allows her to tap into the powers of the supernatural.  You in the other hand have been born with your powers, even though you didn’t know about it, your body was already built for it.  But this doesn’t mean that it’s going to be easier for you.  You were born with a beast inside of you, the beast that took over your body when she pulled you into the veil.  You will need to overcome that beast to ensure that it doesn’t take over again.”

“How do I do that?” Tyler asks.

“Well, we do it bit by bit, let me ask you something, have you ever done something that you didn’t know how you were able to do it, or know something that you didn’t know?”  Emrys appears from behind the screen, he goes and sit at a table while opening a book and taking a pen to write in it.  He starts to makes notes about the whole conversation that he is having with Tyler.   “You don’t mind me taking a couple of notes?” he looks up to Tyler.

“No go ahead” He says taking a seat on an old wooden chair, “as for your question, yes a couple of things happened that I really can’t explain.  Sometimes I have dreams about things that feels more like a memory than a dream, and then there is my academic prestige, sometimes I can write a test without learning for it, and then I would get full marks or at least ninety percent, the answers just come natural.”

“Interesting!” Emrys makes a couple of notes.

“Tell me something else, do you easily get warm or cold and have you ever been seriously ill” is the next question that Emrys asks him.

He sits and thinks, “Well I usually get cold very fast but I don’t seem to every really get warm; for the ill part no I have never been really ill, I had a cold in the past but it usually just last for a day or two”

“I want to get back to what you said about sometimes you can write a test and know the answer without studding for it, do you mind answering a couple of questions for me?”

Tyler nods his head and agrees, Emrys continues to question him about plants, geology, math and all sorts of things that Tyler is not supposed to know.

Even though Tyler doesn’t know everything he knows a great deal about things that he as an eighteen-year-old boy shouldn’t know.  While he questions him, they hear a loud explosion outside, they burst through he door and finds Clarise, standing in the middle of the courtyard, the basin that she used for training falling behind her.

With his jaw, wide open Emrys asks, “And what happened here?”

She turns around and picks up the basin to fill again with water “Well I guess I pushed power into the wrong hand, sorry!”

“Please don’t blow us up” Emrys replies pulling his hand through his hair.

While Clarise continues with her control exercise, Emrys takes Tyler to the furthest side of the yard.  “One thing you should remember is that when you access the beast, it’s going to want to overwhelm you, it’s going to try and take control of you.  If it manages and it wins, you will change into a draconian and we will need to subdue you.  That is why we are going to shackle you to the wall; I just hope that if you change that the chains are going to hold.”  Emrys calls Clarise to come and stand with him, he explains to her that Tyler needs to access the beast but there is a possibility that he is going to change.

He tells Tyler to go, sit, and to close his eyes, “now try and concentrate on yourself, feel every muscle in your body, manage your thoughts find that one thought that one feeling that is not from yourself.  After you found it, concentrate on it, it will lead you to the beast.  When you see him, you will need to keep your distance, it will try and lure you to take control, but don’t fall for it.”

POV Tyler

I close my eyes, I can hear Emrys talking in the background as darkness unfolds me, I start to feel the muscles in my body I’m starting to relax.  I can feel Claris’s presence, what is this…

There is a voice, its familiar but I do not recognize it, “You can’t let them shackle you, you are more powerful than they are, and you allow this; how can you allow this?”  I follow the voice into darkness, as I walk closer, I can feel some sort of presence, it surrounds me.  From the darkness I see two lights burning, I walk closer, no its not lights its something’s eyes.  Big yellow monstrosity’s eyes with cat like pupil, the smell of charred wood hangs in the air.  The eyes come closer, from the darkness I can see two big nostrils with smoke escaping from them appearing followed by a long reptilian snout and the face of what looks like a dragon, with light green brown scales on it.

“Hum I have a visitor I see” comes from the dragon’s mouth.

I stand there astonished at the beast in front of me, even though I have never seen the monster there is a certain familiarity about it.  “You know we have met before, and not only the last time when I took control to save our lives.  Long before that you met me once, in a time of big sorrow.”  The dragon moves from the darkness its huge maybe thirty or thirty-five feet high, its four claws extended with long talons from it, shivers in the light, it’s followed by a long tail with what seems like a stinger on the end.  Flames leaking from its mouth when it speaks “do you remember; boy?

I try to remember but I cannot, I nod at him no I cannot remember.  He moves closer and picks up one of his claws bringing it close to me, I try to retreat but it says, “don’t be afraid I won’t hurt you; I can’t hurt you without hurting myself”.  I froze and stand still, the point of his talon touches my forehead, it feels like a bright light is shined upon me.  I see my mother’s face, much clearer than I have ever seen it, her smile so radiant, I can hear her voice, “remember I will always love you; I will always watch over you”.  Then two women dressed in warrior clothing with long spears in their hands take her away, as she turns around big white wings grew from her back and in an instant, the three of them disappears.

It feels like my heart is breaking I feel the pain, and then suddenly I am back in the darkness.  Facing the dragon “you see, I won’t hurt you; I’m here for you; you can trust me!”  I do not know what to feel or what to think, “Who are they and where did they take my mother?” 

“Those are the guardians of the Valkyrie, they stay in the Realm of Rest, if you want, I can take you there, all you have to do is to allow me to take you there, allow me to take control” the dragon leaps forward and tries to grab me with its front paws.  I jump back I feel how I am pulled back into the light.  I open my eyes as I open my eyes, I look into the faces of Clarise and Emrys.  “What happened?”
