Chapter 27
THE BREAKFAST RUSH WAS gone and it was the perfect time to take a break. He joined Charlotte and Abbye at a table. As he sat down the doors chimed behind him. He noticed the look on both Charlotte and Abbye’s faces, so he turned to look.
There she was.
He didn’t even feel himself stand up.
“Hey,” was all that came out.
“Hey.” She smiled and waved slightly. Charlotte and Abbye both stood and made their way to the kitchen.
“Want something to drink?” he asked her.
“No, thank you. To be honest, I almost didn’t come, again.” She could see the hurt on his face. “Not that I didn’t want to. I keep thinking that what Ms. Bertha and the hospital board said was right, that I couldn’t possibly feel a connection to someone I’ve never met.”
“I feel a connection,” he stated bluntly.
