Chapter 8 KINLEY SAT IN THE PARK outside the hospital, where she always ate her lunch when she was able to pick up day shifts. Sometimes, she went before her regular shift to soak in the calm it always brought. And to write. The therapist said writing letters to people who are gone is a good way to express her feelings in a nondestructive way. She wrote her mom and dad many letters. Today, Kinley went to the park and wrote one that she knew would never make it to its destination. But it isn’t for him anyway, Kinley thought. As she wrote, she heard the birds chirping, and the sun was warm on her skin. With every word Kinley felt a release of tension. She stopped every few sentences and watched the ducks.
