This time, the elven girl ducked when Asaron lashed out. “Too slow, old man.” “Have respect for your elders.” Unbidden, Syri approached Victory and hugged her. “It’s good to see you all again. I mean, not good, I guess,” she said, her voice muffled in Victory’s shoulder. “You know what I mean.” The girl should have seemed frail, ghostly, the way the strange light of this world washed her out.
