"Child, I can see that you truly like our Xiaolin," he said, rubbing his forehead and pausing for a moment before continuing, "But if one day, you had to choose between your father and Xiaolin, how would you choose?"
"Grandfather, just say what you mean," Channing MacArthur replied. When he first acknowledged Teresa Hansen, in his father's study, he had already suspected that there was something going on. But since his father didn't say anything, he couldn't do much about it.
"First, answer me, what would you do if that day came?" Elder Lin persisted.
Channing MacArthur forced down the unease in his heart and looked up at the old man, "She is the mother of my child and also the love of my life, Channing MacArthur. She is as important to me as my father."
