CHAPTER 10
“What’s that?” Ru cries out in alarm as the soft song of the Krobats fills our heads.
He holds up his torch, shining it around, but all it illuminates is the trees.
“Relax,” I say. “It always happens. I think it’s the Krobats doing it. We’re nearly at the place where I meet them.”
We turn around a bend in the overgrown path and enter the clearing. Before we’ve even taken two steps, the fog swirls up, blanketing out the trees around us as usual, giving Ru no time to hide.
“What the…?” Ru begins, but then the two large silhouettes of Cratt and Baro appear in front of us.
“We welcome you, Emily Renzi,” Baro says, the fog parting enough to show his bat-like head. Ru takes several steps back. Baro looks at him curiously. “This is one of your kin, I believe?”
