The facade of the building, which was opulently gothic from top to bottom and gave the impression that it was once a church, was extravagantly dark, but the architectural detail was so precise and immaculate that it was more likely a nineteenth-century replica. Whatever the time period, it was remarkable. Garcia and I entered via imposing cast bronze doors and found ourselves gazing down into a huge nave.
