All she could do was wait. She couldn’t concentrate on paperwork and she’d promised Archer she wouldn’t go out. Ester wasn’t here and no one knocked on Archer’s door. She watched TV, flicking through channels faster than she could register what was on them. But it was the repetitive motion occupying her hands that kept her clicking the button. She made coffee. She drank wine. She took a bath. She tried to sleep… All the while her gaze drifted back to the front door as she waited to hear the sound of a key in the lock.
