The sources of information on hetman's life, like in the case of many other Ukrainian politicians and commanders of the Cossack time are very scarce. The date of electing Sahaidachnyi the Hetman can be found in the poetic ode by Kasyan Sakovych, written after the death of the hetman in 1622.
