Chapter 13: Dragon Pool Waterfall

825 Words
Taking in the scenery around me slowly, my eyes lingering on the pool of water at the foot of the fall. I absent-mindedly imagine myself stepping into the pool and submerging myself in the clear water. I imagine myself slithering on the surface of the water like a snake and in my imagination, I am about to transform but just then I am interrupted by someone clearing their throat. I quickly turn my head and see that everyone here, Aoyun, Bhikkhu, my whelps, and about thirteen other monks wearing saffron robes sit with their legs folded around the fire. I quickly refocus my attention on them and then Bhikkhu begins to speak. "This day is one of great importance. We welcome not one but instead ten new lives into our humble temple. We welcome too, their mother as she comes to guide them to wisdom and strength. We will all be giving aid to her and Aoyun as they accompany the young ones through their first transformation from a dragon into a human body form. This is a path that would take a great length of time to be done correctly and the trials are arduous but we must all stay vigilant as there will not be much rest in the days ahead. We will be witnesses to the earliest transformation ever performed on dragon-kind and not only that but, we will see it happen to ten new dragons. There is a chance that we may lose a few of them and ourselves along the way but this is a small sacrifice that we will make. Before we can perform the change, we must first tell the little ones about their history and the reason we are here at the Dragon Pool Waterfall. " he says as his hands stretch out, pointing towards the waterfall slowing down into the pool below it. I couldn't help but feel prickly as he mentioned that we might lose some of the whelps along the way. I will never allow that to happen, I'd die before I let that happen. Bhikkhu continues by saying "This was where the first dragons came when they fell from the Sun. They fell from the sky as great balls of fire and crashed into the earth, scattering across the mountains of China. There were four dragon eggs that day and they were all different colors and so grand in their size. Later they were all gathered at this place by the monks who came long before me. In hopes that they would hatch and reveal to the world, a great prophecy. They were kept warm for a very long time but nothing happened and when all hope was gone a great fire came again from the sky. It was not another egg but what came is now known as a meteorite. The night that it appeared the entire sky looked light morning, it had a tail streaming along behind it. When it was low enough to the ground to touch the tree tops they caught fire and eventually the entire area caught fire and with it, the eggs were also consumed by the unworldly fire. The flames burned for many days, taking trees and everything around with them. Villagers nearby came to help, trying to put out the flames and it was then that the first cry of dragons was heard on earth." Bhikkhu continues. "Once they hatched, they all scattered in different directions and that is how we now come to know North, South, East, and West. Since then stories of dragons destroying cities and villages have spread far and wide across the earth and they became feared creatures. Their stories can be heard in every part of history around the world. Tonight, we will watch as the young ones dive into the clear waters of the Dragon Pool, its waters are enriched with the spiritual magic of their ancestors. When they enter, their journey will begin and they will take in the knowledge passed down to them through generations. The memories of the ones whose lines they come from will embed in their memories and they will gain knowledge of how to evolve their bodies". He now turns to me, " As their mother, you will go into the water with them and keep them alive, since you are their bonded only you can go with them Aoyun will be there to take care of you but there will be very little that he can do for the young ones if something should happen. Because of this, we will only put them one at a time, but we will not stop until they all go under. You must prepare your mind for the journey along with them, their minds are strongly linked to yours and you may see, hear, feel smell, and taste what they do. You must brace yourself for this because there may be many things that shock you."
