“Ivy,” Zeke's voice was shaky as he approached her.
“Explain this.” She stood up and shoved the letter into his chest. “Why don't you explain this, Zeke? Is this the reason why…” Her voice cracked and she trailed off.
“What are you doing here?” Zeke ran his fingers through his hair.
“That's not what you're supposed to be saying. That's definitely not it.” She countered.
“Just… leave.” He pointed his fingers at the door.
“Are you for real? I saw my name there, I saw reasons, I know what you're facing, Zeke. We could work together and…”
“You have no idea what I'm facing, Ivy. No idea.” Zeke grunted and fell on the couch.
“Then make me.” She muttered. “Make me understand. Or are you just scared?” She pushed.
“Scared?” Zeke scoffed. “Being scared would be better than this. I'm saving your life everyday, Ivy. You have no idea how vulnerable you would be once we're mated, you have no idea how many people are waiting for us to mate so they can come out you. You have no idea.” He snapped at her.
“Then Enid? Is she the right choice, is she safe?” Ivy raised an eyebrow.
“You're not Enid. Just leave.”
“I can protect myself.” Ivy finally said. “If you're afraid because of me, I can protect myself.” She said.
“You?” Zeke chuckled coldly. “You can't even turn into a wolf, how do you want to protect yourself.”
“You could teaching me, Zeke! For moon's sake, there's nothing bad if you push me harder and stop staying away from me. Is Darius the person that would hurt me? Is that why he told you to get married to Enid? To hurt me? To hurt me through the bond? Is that the reason why?” Ivy snapped, tears glistening at her eyes.
“Ivy, leave.” Zeke looked away.
“Yeah!” Ivy sniffed and wiped her tears. “That's the only thing you know how to do well. Look away, walk away when things get too emotional, when your emotions are seeping through your mask, when your wolf wants me because you know letting me stay a little bit longer would break you and you don't want to admit it.” Ivy yelled.
“What do you want me to do? To kiss you?” Zeke scoffed.
“Probably.” She replied.
“While putting your life at risk?”
“Exactly.” She said almost immediately.
“Are you mad?”He asked in disbelief. “Now, get out of my room before I make you leave.” He ordered.
“By what? Using your alpha's voice that doesn't work on me or hitting me where the pain is shared between the both of us?” She asked and shook her head.
“Ivy, get the hell out of my room.” The room shook as Zeke roared, his eyes glowing in fury.
“Goddess. You're so stupid, Zeke.” Ivy snapped, tears rolling down her eyes, sobs spilling from her lips as she ran off.
“Goddess.” Zeke frowned and stood up, throwing his body on his bed.
When he opened his eyes again, he was back on that field, the Luna Head but this time, the field was stained with blood, and she was standing above it all, wounded soldiers moaning in pain on the floor and she… she was giving them strength.
Her white and silver fur with piercing blue eyes were hard to dismiss as she moved across the field like she owned it. Healing the soldiers the same way ivy healed the pups.
The wolf stopped suddenly in her movement and turned towards him, her eyes clashing with his before they lit up. Not in defiance or disobedience, or challenge. They lit up in recognition and she gave a small nod with her big head before continuing her job, healing soldiers.
Zeke jumped awake at dawn with the burning blue mark on his arms and he stared at it for a while longer than usual before he got up to perform his duties. But he felt something else deep down in his bones. Something that made him sat back on his bed.
A satisfaction, like something had finally fitted and he knew why. He knew what. Because at another end of the pack, in a dark room, Ivy laid on her bed, whimpering softly as she sees his past in his sleep.
He could feel it through the bond, the fire he was always fighting against, dark memories that haunted him at night, he feels it when she absorbs the grief of the fire, when her ears ring from his mother's scream, feels her flinch from it even though it happened before she was old enough to understand loss.
Zeke lies back on his bed, in the dark, feeling her feel his pain and he tried something he haven't done since he was born even when he had the ability. He tried reaching her in her dreams, trries comforting her. And ivy sighs softly when she felt his warm, the familiar warmth her body has grown accustomed to even before her mind did.
Her pain lessened and Zeke sighed. He could feel a c***k opening in the wall he had built around his heart. A c***k he couldn't locate, replace or repair. He vaguely heard his mother's voice telling him to let go, but was he without the pain. What would he let go of.
He couldn't sleep again and it was visibly when everyone rose because of the dark circles underneath his eyes and the way he was irritated by everyone. Everyone except the pups. And Ivy. But no one noticed that.
