Chapter Thirty Four

1114 Words
When Ivy woke up, the first time she did was to look around, but she could barely see a thing as the darkness obscured her vision. The chirping of insects echoed in the night and ivy shifted uncomfortablely. The cold swept through her skin, leaving her shivering and slowly, her eyes adjusted to the darkness. She took a deep breathe - breathing slowly through her nose before allowing herself to feel. Cold walls, damp floors. The place felt like an abandoned warehouse and when she could finally see, her thoughts were justified. Broken chairs and remnants of chemicals littered the room. The smell of the damp earth, iron and the chemicals hit her nostrils and she raised her gaze towards the wall. A small rectangular window near the ceiling gave her a view of the grey sky and her heart dropped into her stomach. It was night already, she realized with a growing feeling of unease, the whole pack must have known that she was missing now and she had torn thoughts about what they would think. Zeke might be happy, as she had given him the chance to get married to Enid but part of her also knows that Zeke wouldn't be able, that he would be devastated about her missing. She thought about Tessa and decided to stop thinking. The events of earlier played in her head. She had crossed the border and arrived the meeting place at the due time, an opening between two oak trees just as the note described but it was empty. She had looked around her and even though her instincts told her to run, misty had even told her to turn back and leave immediately but she waited. Even when she became impatient, she still waited and that was when it happened. They came from three directions simultaneously, like they knew where she would stand and what to expect, like they had been watching her. She caught on almost immediately, the sinking realization that she had walked into a trap. And she fought back, hard. She was sure she broke someone's nose, she had even used her full strength, using something that could only be Luna powers, but she didn't want to think about that. The assailants were in shock but recovered almost immediately, it was like they had pondered on that possibility before attacking and she tried back. She used everything Zeke had taught her and more. She couldn't wait to be free from here - if maybe luck shone on her - and brag to Zeke about her strengths. But they were too organized, too coordinated, professional, attacking her specifically, knowing her flaws so they broke her. Someone hit her on the head with something and everything became blurry before she collapsed on the floor, subconsciously. She heard their whoop of victory before she was picked up and blindfolded and since then she was drifting in and out of consciousness. Behind her, her hands was tied in ropes - it was either these people didn't see her as much of a threat or they were confident they had her. But her heart sank when she realized that the rope was tied into three knots behind her back. Something Zeke would do. Her heart sank at that. If these people were on par with Zeke, it would become hard to escape. Her mind raced, trying to come up with something. “Misty.” She called out and was met with silence. “Misty,” she tried again, more desperate. This time, misty replied with a groan. “You need to talk to me. We have to get out.” She said. “I warned you, didn't I?” Misty pointed out. “I know, but even at that, you can't just leave me here alone.” Ivy complained and she heard a snort from misty. “I'm not leaving you here. I just don't have what to say.” She said and went back into silence. And somehow, ivy could feel that her wolf was as speechless as she was. How did it get to this? She began the next thing, checking her injuries. A cut above her eyebrow that had dried now, bruised ribs on her left side that protested when she breathed too deeply and fast, raw skin at her wrists from the impact of the rope digging into her flesh, a cut on her head where she had been hit. Nothing critical, nothing that would slow her down when she got up. Hopefully. Her heart and head was pounding but she forced herself to remain calm and not make a noise. Misty surged forward with new found energy that sent ivy's ribs into a painful protest. “What the f**k!” Ivy groaned and panted heavily. “We have good news.” Misty said in a barely concealed excited voice. “We?” Ivy asked, quietly praying it was what she was thinking. “Well, me. Or you can add Leer if you so wish.” misty purred. “My mate is close and he knows we are here. At least you knows the direction. How about you try reaching out to Zeke?” Misty asked. Ivy's heart resumed it's pounding but this time from excitement. She couldn't wait to see Zeke's expression or… “Now isn't the time for that.” She cautioned herself and sat up straight. “I can't actually reach Zeke. I can't feel him yet.” Ivy said as she sat up straight against the wall. But she could feel the boiling fury, directed at herself. She had been so stupid to not think and actually feel this was safe, going out of the border alone. But she tried to be careful, so the fury wouldn't become panic because that was the last thing she needed right now. Panic was useless so she tried to think. “Think like Zeke would.” She told herself but she didn't have enough time to think because a door she didn't know was in the room flung open, ushering blinding light into the room. It shot at Ivy's eyes and she winced softly as her eyes adjusted to it. “Move her.” Someone said. “I want to see how your mate would know the location you are if you don't know,” the person said and for some weird reason she found the voice familiar. But she was sure it wasn't Darius. She knew Darius's voice well enough to be able to recognize it. She didn't have much time to think because she was hit in the head almost immediately and everything became black as she passed out.
