Petra shifted in her position and placed her hands on her laps, her beaded eyes staring at Ivy. She cleared her throat and began. Ivy listened attentively without interruption which proved to be the hardest thing she had ever done. She stayed still and kept her face neutral, allowing the words pour out, soaking into her ears even as the questions piled in her mind.
And slowly, she started to put things together, to understand the stories Petra was saying. Everything took shape in her head. The Hale couple - her parents were hardworking and smart mid-rank wolves when Darius approached them with a deal. Not coerce, he recruited them.
Get close to the alpha couples, know their schedules, pass it over to Petra who would in turn tell Darius. For elevation in the pack, protection and a promise of status for their daughter. The end game was the death of the alpha couples, that they were aware of. Ivy winced when Petra said that. Maybe because in a tiny corner of her mind, she had hoped her parents didn't know what they were doing.
Petra saw her expression but continued anyway. They were mid-rank wolves who wanted the best for their daughter and if their daily lifestyle won't benefit their daughter, they decided to switch it up. So they took the deal and began working with Darius.
Because of their charisma and charm, they gained the Alpha couples trust quickly especially Sandra - her mother, and they were promoted.
The next plan was setting their house on fire and they did. But they calculated wrongly, Zeke was not yet at home when they did it. That was what brought about their downfall. Darius was furious and he gave them a three days ultimatum to kill Zeke or face his wrath but her parents couldn't bring themselves to actually kill a kid that had somehow escaped the fire. They thought maybe the moon goddess was by him and they didn't want to offend her even further. By this time in the story, tears were already rolling down Ivy's eyes.
But yet, her parents tried when the heat from Darius became too much and they failed. So they were skeptical about trying again. The three days passed and Darius began his punishment, they were demoted but that was only the beginning, Darius made their lives a living hell in the pack.
As people that had helped him the most and had have a taste of living as high ranked wolves, they weren't going down without a fight so they decided to pull Darius down with them if they had to go down.
They went to a council elder with the intention of confessing everything to him. But before they could, Darius was aware of it. And he acted quickly.
The accusation came almost immediately. The Hale couple were responsible for the death of the beloved alpha couple - half true but not the real truth. The pack wanted blood, wanted them dead. The accusation lasted only forty eight hours before investigation was carried out for two days.
They were tried in a pack session that lasted less than twenty four hours headed by Darius and was executed that same day. Darius became alpha.
Petra was the only person aside Darius immediate circle that was aware of what happened so she was placed here. As protection for her life. Staying in the outside world meant she would be tempted to talk and they wouldn't waste a second to kill her. She had waited three years to be able to communicate with ivy and it still backfired. That was just how smart Darius men was.
But she had something against them, a leverage no one would be able to deny. The documents. Copies she made when Sandra handed them to her before she sent it to Darius. Documentations of Darius's plans and his actions, his messages to the Hale couples, everything that passed through her, she copied. She didn't know why she was making copies at that time but maybe it was just a gut feeling. Copies that survived when Darius was destroying every shred of evidence against him.
Hidden somewhere deep in Bloodcrawl pack where Darius wouldn't bother checking. That piqued ivy's attention.
“Where?” She asked.
“The greenhouse.” Petra replied. “Hidden in the dark roses, wrapped in oilskin at the base of the largest bush. The roses that responded to you.”
“How do you know about that?” Ivy asked.
“I put them there, ivy. I was the greenhouse keeper before Mika. I was the reason those roses responded to you. I come from a rare bloodline of wolves known as the seers. We cast spells too. I hid the documents in a spell inside the roses.” Petra explained.
“And how am I going to get these documents if I even get out of here.” Ivy asked.
“I would write the spell out for you and give you the instructions.” Petra placed her hands inside her robe and retrieved a piece of paper. “In this is the instructions and the spell you need to unlock the documents.” She placed it in ivy's back pocket. “I might not have this chance again Ivy but I'm proud of you and I'm sure your parents are.” She patted her shoulder.
“The parents that were traitors? That killed an innocent couple and tried to kill my mate?”
“Ivy.” Petra called.
“What? They were doing it for me? I didn't even ask them?” She scoffed.
“With these documents, you can make things right, show it to Zeke.”
“The mate that my parents tried to kill? How do I even hand the documents over to him so he could see how my parents killed his mate, more reasons to reject me and how my parents tried killing him too.” A stray tear dropped down Ivy's cheeks.
“He would also know the mastermind behind everything. He knows what your parents did already, and he's not holding it against you, he's just scared for your safety. Maybe if he knows who orchestrated it and is able to get rid of him, he won't be so scared anymore.” Petra said.
“It's not easy kid, but do it. For Zeke. For yourself. For the mate bond.”
