Chapter 17: Digital War

Victor didn't sleep. By 4 AM, Damian's post was gone. His account was deleted. His company's website was down. "What did you do?" I asked, watching him from the couch. Victor was typing on 3 laptops at once. "What he should've expected." "You hacked him?" "I bought him," Victor said. "His company. His debt. His reputation." I sat up. "Victor, that's-" "Criminal?" He looked at me. "Maybe. Do I care? No." He came and sat next to me. Dark circles under his eyes. "He tried to humiliate you," Victor said. "In front of the whole world. No one touches what's mine." I touched his hand. "Thank you." "Don't thank me," he said. "Just stay away from windows tonight. He might try something stupid." The next day, news spread. `Kane Corp acquires Hart Industries.` `CEO Damian Hart files for bankruptcy.` `Mysterious video leaks of auction house.` Damian was finished. But he wasn't done. At noon, we got a message. Unknown number. Video attached. I pressed play. It was me. 3 years ago. At the auction house. Crying. Being sold. Damian's voice: "This is what Victor Kane calls a Luna. Pathetic." Victor threw his phone across the room. It shattered. "Enough," he growled. He looked at me. I was frozen. Watching myself get sold. Again. "Luna, look at me," Victor said. I couldn't. He knelt in front of me. Took my face in his hands. "That girl is not you anymore," he said. "That girl survived. This woman fought. This woman is my Luna." Tears fell. "Everyone saw it, Victor." "Let them see," he said. "Let them see what you overcame. Let them see who you are now." He kissed my tears away. "We're going live," he said. "Tonight. And you're going to tell them the truth." "Me? I can't-" "You can," Victor said. "Because you're not broken anymore. And I'm right here." 8 PM. Live stream. 2 million viewers. Victor stood behind the camera. I sat in front of it. "I'm Luna Carter," I said. My voice shook. "Yes, I was sold. Yes, I was rejected. And yes, I was hurt." I looked at the camera. "But I'm also the woman who fought back. Who found her wolf. Who found her mate. And who will never be a victim again." Victor's hand rested on my shoulder. "Anyone who has a problem with that," Victor said into the mic, "can answer to me." We ended the stream. Within an hour, #TeamLuna was trending. Messages flooded in. Women sharing their stories. Of rejection. Of abuse. Of survival. I cried reading them. Victor held me. "See? You're not alone." That night, Damian sent one last text: `You win this round, Kane.` Victor deleted it. "War's over," he said. "We won." He pulled me to bed. "No more fighting tonight," he whispered. "Just us."
