Chapter 18: Healing

432 Words
One week. No fights. No Damian. No blood. Just us. Victor cancelled all meetings. "Two weeks," he said. "Just you and me." We stayed in the penthouse. We cooked. We watched movies. We slept. For the first time in my life, I felt safe. "You're staring," Victor said one morning. We were having coffee on the balcony. "Sorry," I said. "I just... can't believe this is real." He set his cup down and pulled me onto his lap. "It's real," he said. "And it's not going anywhere." I rested my head on his chest. His heartbeat was steady. "Can I ask you something?" I said. "Anything." "Why me? You could've had anyone. Beautiful, powerful she-wolves. Why me? The rejected one?" Victor was quiet for a long time. "Because you didn't need me," he said finally. "You survived without me. You fought without me. And when I offered you a contract, you looked me in the eye and said no." He kissed my hair. "Everyone else wanted me for my money. For my name. You didn't want anything from me. Except maybe to be left alone." "And now?" I whispered. "Now I want everything from you," he said. "Your mornings. Your nights. Your anger. Your laugh." He lifted my chin. "Your heart, Luna. If you'll give it to me." I nodded. Tears in my eyes. "It's yours." That night, we didn't need words. We moved slowly. Like we had all the time in the world. No contract. No desperation. Just us. After, Victor traced the mark on my neck. "Does it hurt?" he asked. "No," I said. "It feels like home." He smiled. The soft one. The one only I got to see. Three days later, I woke up sick. Victor panicked. "What's wrong? Doctor? Hospital?" I shook my head, running to the bathroom. When I came out, I was shaking. "Victor," I said. "I think... I think I'm late." He froze. "Late?" "My cycle. It's 2 weeks late." Victor went completely still. Then he moved. Pregnancy test. From the pharmacy. 3 different kinds. We waited. 3 minutes. Two lines. Positive. The room went silent. Victor looked at me. "Luna..." I couldn't breathe. "Is this... is this real?" Victor dropped to his knees in front of me. His hands on my stomach. "Our baby," he whispered. "We're having a baby." I started crying. He started laughing. He picked me up and spun me around. "We're having a baby, Luna!" That night, we didn't sleep. We talked. About names. About the future. About everything. Victor held me all night. One hand on my stomach.
