8:03 PM. Kane Pack Headquarters.
The room was huge. 50 wolves. All Alphas, Betas, and elders.
And in the center, me.
I was wearing a black dress Victor picked out. He was in a suit. His arm was still bandaged under the jacket.
Every eye was on me.
"Who is she?" someone whispered. "The rejected one?"
"She's wolf-less," another said. "Victor lost his mind."
Victor stepped forward. His hand found mine.
"This is Luna Carter," he said. His voice filled the room. "My chosen Luna."
Silence.
Then an elder stood up. "With all due respect, Alpha. She was rejected. She has no pack. No status."
"She has me," Victor said. "That's all the status she needs."
My heart pounded.
Another wolf spoke. A female. "Did you even mark her? Or is this just for show?"
Victor looked at me. "Not yet."
Whispers.
"Then she's not Luna," the woman said. "Anyone can say words."
That was it.
Victor pulled me closer. "You want proof?"
Before I could breathe, he turned me to him. His hand went to my neck.
And he bit me.
Not hard. Not to hurt. Right where my neck met my shoulder.
Pain. Heat. Then pleasure.
A silver mark appeared on my skin. His mark.
The whole room went silent.
When he pulled back, I was shaking. My knees were weak.
Victor licked the spot gently. Then looked at everyone.
"Is that enough proof?" he asked.
No one answered.
"Good," Victor said. "Because from now on, anyone who disrespects her disrespects me. And I don't forgive that."
The elder bowed his head. "Understood, Alpha."
One by one, they all bowed.
To me.
Me. The girl who was sold. The rejected Luna.
Victor squeezed my hand. "You did good," he whispered.
After the meeting, we walked out. My legs felt like jelly.
"Why did you do that?" I asked. "In front of everyone?"
"Because they needed to see," Victor said. "That you're mine. And I'm yours."
He stopped and turned me to face him.
"And because I wanted to," he added. "I've wanted to mark you since the first night."
My cheeks burned.
His phone buzzed. He looked at it and his face darkened.
"What?" I asked.
"Damian," Victor said. "He posted something online. About you."
He showed me the phone.
A photo. Me, at the auction. With a price tag.
Caption: `This is what the new Luna used to be. Trash.`
My stomach dropped.
Victor took the phone and crushed it in his hand.
"He wants a war," Victor said. "Fine. He'll get one."
He looked at me. "Are you scared?"
I shook my head. "No. Not with you."
Victor smiled. The first real smile I'd seen in weeks.
"Then let's go home, Luna. We have work to do."
