It was a full moon.
I could feel it in my bones. In my blood. In that small warmth Victor helped wake up.
"Tonight," Victor said. "We go to the mountains. No one can see you."
He was right. After the press conference, Damian's pack was hunting me.
At midnight, we stood on a cliff. Wind. Moonlight. Silence.
"Are you scared?" Victor asked.
"Yes," I admitted. "What if she doesn't come out?"
"She will," Victor said. "Because you're not broken anymore."
He stepped behind me and wrapped his arms around me. "Let go, Luna. Stop holding back."
I closed my eyes. Breathed.
Pain.
Sharp. Hot. My bones cracked. My skin burned.
I screamed.
And then... freedom.
Fur. Claws. Power.
I was running. On four legs. Through the forest. The moon above me.
I was a wolf again. Silver. Fast. Strong.
I howled.
Victor shifted too. A massive black wolf. Alpha. He ran beside me.
We raced through the trees. No words. Just running. Just being.
For the first time in years, I felt whole.
When we stopped by a lake, I shifted back. Naked. Shaking.
Victor shifted too and immediately put his jacket around me.
"You did it," he said. Pride in his eyes. "You're back."
"I did it," I whispered. "Because of you."
He pulled me to him. "I'm proud of you, Luna."
The moment stretched. Moonlight on his skin. On mine.
Then his phone buzzed.
Sarah: `Damian is at Kane Tower. With 20 wolves. He's coming for her.`
Victor's face went hard. "We have to go. Now."
He helped me dress. We ran back to the car.
In the car, Victor loaded a gun. "Stay behind me. No matter what."
I nodded. But my wolf was awake now. And she was angry.
Damian wanted to take me?
Let him try.
For the first time, I wasn't scared.
I was ready to fight.
