I woke up to glass breaking.
3 AM. My room. Kane tower, 40th floor.
My heart was in my throat. The curtains were moving. The window was open.
And a shadow was standing there.
"Don't scream," a low voice said. "It'll just make this worse."
Damian.
He was in black. Rain on his shoulders. Eyes glowing gold.
"What are you doing here?" I whispered. "Victor's security--"
"Is useless," Damian cut me off. "Just like he is."
He stepped closer. I backed away until my back hit the wall.
"Come with me, Luna," he said. "This is a mistake. You and me. We were mates. The moon goddess doesn't make mistakes."
"YOU rejected me!" I hissed. "In front of everyone!"
"I was scared," he growled. "My father forced me. But I regret it. Every day."
He reached for my face. I slapped his hand away.
"Don't touch me."
The door slammed open.
Victor.
In sweatpants and nothing else. Hair messy. Gun in his hand.
"What the hell is going on?" he roared.
Damian turned slowly. "Just talking to my mate, Kane."
"She's not your mate," Victor said. Ice cold. "She's mine. For the next 6 months. Touch her and you're dead."
Damian laughed. "Contract Luna? That's pathetic. Even for you."
Victor didn't answer. He just raised the gun.
"Get. Out. Of. My. House."
For a second I thought they would kill each other. Two alphas. In my room.
Damian looked at me one last time. "This isn't over, Luna."
Then he jumped. Right out the 40th floor window. And shifted mid-air into a giant black wolf.
Gone.
My legs gave out. Victor caught me before I hit the floor.
"Are you hurt?" he asked. Panic in his voice. Real panic.
"N-no," I shook my head. "I'm okay."
He was shaking. Not from anger. From fear. For me.
"I should have had better security," he muttered. "I'm sorry."
"Don't," I said. "You came. You saved me."
Victor pulled me into his chest and just held me. Tight.
We stayed like that for a long time. On the floor. With broken glass around us.
"Clause 8," he whispered into my hair. "Is getting really hard to follow."
I closed my eyes. "I know."
Because the truth was, when Damian was here, I was scared.
But when Victor held me, I felt safe.
And that was way more dangerous than any wolf jumping through my window.
