After the break-in, Victor didn't let me out of his sight.
Board meeting? I was in the corner with a laptop.
Lunch? He made me eat at his desk.
Even the bathroom - his assistant stood outside.
"I can take care of myself," I said on day 3.
"No, you can't," Victor replied without looking up from his papers. "Not from Damian."
He was angry. But not at me. At himself.
That night we had another event. Smaller this time. Just 20 CEOs.
Damian was there again. Of course.
He walked straight to me while Victor was talking to an investor.
"Luna," he said softly. "You look tired. Is he working you too hard?"
"Don't," I warned. "Victor is--"
"Is what?" Damian stepped closer. "Paying you? Using you?"
"Excuse me," a cold voice cut in.
Victor.
He slid between us. One arm around my waist. Claiming.
"Problem here?" Victor asked Damian. Smile on his face. Danger in his eyes.
"Just catching up with my ex," Damian said.
"Ex," Victor emphasized. "Past tense. She's with me now."
The tension was so thick I could barely breathe.
Then Victor did something that shocked everyone.
He kissed me.
Not soft. Not sweet. Possessive. Claiming. Right there in front of 20 people.
My brain short-circuited. His hand was on my jaw. His other arm locked around me.
When he pulled back, I was dazed.
Victor looked at Damian. "Still think she's available?"
Damian's face was pure rage. He turned and walked away.
The room was silent.
Victor turned to me. His eyes were dark. "You okay?"
I nodded. Couldn't speak.
"Good," he said. "Let's go home."
In the car, neither of us spoke. Until...
"Why did you do that?" I asked.
Victor stared out the window. "Because he needed to know. And so did everyone else."
"Know what?"
"That you're mine," he said quietly. "Contract or not. For these 6 months, you're mine to protect."
My heart was pounding.
"Clause 8," I whispered.
"Yeah," Victor sighed. "Clause 8."
He reached over and took my hand. Didn't let go all the way home.
And I didn't pull away.
