Chapter 8: Wake Up, Wolf

372 Words
I don't have a wolf. Not anymore. The day Damian rejected me, my wolf went silent. Hurt. Broken. "She's dead," the pack doctor said. "Some wolves don't survive rejection." Victor didn't believe it. "Every wolf can be woken up," he said one morning. "Even broken ones." So at 5 AM he dragged me to the rooftop of Kane tower. City below us. Moon above us. Freezing cold. "Strip," he ordered. "What?" I shivered. "To connect with your wolf you need to feel. The cold. The air. Everything. Clothes block it." I hesitated. Then took off my jacket. I was in a tank top and leggings. Victor took off his shirt too. His chest had scars. Old battles. "Sit," he said and sat cross-legged. "Close your eyes." I did. "Breathe," he whispered. "In. Out. Feel your heart. Now go deeper. Where your wolf lives." Nothing. "You're trying too hard," Victor said. "Stop thinking. Remember before Damian. When you ran free. When you felt powerful." Tears came. "I can't. It hurts too much." A warm hand touched my back. "I know. But I'm here. You won't break again. Not on my watch." His voice was soft. Not the cold CEO. Just... Victor. I breathed. And remembered. Running through forests. Moon on my fur. Feeling free. A flicker. In my chest. Warmth. My eyes snapped open. "Did you feel that?" Victor smiled. First real smile I’d seen. "Yeah. There she is." I gasped. My hands were shaking. Under my skin, something moved. A whine. Inside me. Small. Scared. "She's alive," I whispered. "My wolf... she's alive." Victor pulled me into a hug before I could stop him. "I told you. She's not dead." We stayed like that. Me crying. Him holding me. "Thank you," I mumbled into his chest. "Don't thank me yet," he said. "Training starts tomorrow. 4 AM." I groaned. "You're evil." "I'm your alpha for 6 months," he said. "And I'm not letting you be weak." As the sun came up, I felt it again. That small warmth in my chest. Hope. Maybe I wasn't broken forever. Maybe Victor was right. And maybe the most dangerous part of this contract was how much I wanted him to keep touching me like that.
