Chapter 2: The Contract Luna

481 Words
The heater in the Maybach was on full blast. But I was still shivering. The man - Victor Kane - didn't speak for 10 minutes. He just kept glancing at me through the rearview mirror. Like I was a problem he needed to solve. Finally we stopped in front of a glass tower. Kane Enterprises. "Come," he said and opened the door for me. I had no shoes. No money. No phone. Just the thin jacket he gave me in the car. His office was on the 80th floor. The whole city was under us. "Sit," he ordered and pointed to a leather chair. I sat. My teeth were still chattering. Victor poured two glasses of whiskey. He gave me water instead. "What's your name?" he asked. "Luna," I whispered. He smiled. But it didn't reach his eyes. "Of course it is. How ironic." He walked around his desk and stood in front of me. Too close. "I saw what happened at the Blackwood pack gates. Damian rejected you. Publicly. Humiliated you." My face burned. "Why do you care?" "Because I hate Damian Blackwood," he said simply. "And because I need something from you." My stomach dropped. "What?" "A Luna," Victor said. "My board is pressuring me to settle down. To have a mate. For the company's image. But I don't have time for dating. Or love." He paused. "So here's my offer. Be my fake Luna for 6 months. Attend events with me. Pretend to be in love. In return, I give you 5 million dollars, a house, and protection from Damian." I stared at him. "That's... that's crazy." "Is it?" He crouched down to my level. His eyes were ice cold but serious. "You have nothing, Luna. No pack. No wolf. No family. In 6 months you can walk away rich. Or you can die in the snow tonight." He was right. And I hated him for it. "What if I say no?" I asked. "Then my driver will drop you back at the pack border," he said coldly. "Your choice." My hands were shaking. Damian ruined my life. And now this stranger was offering me a way out. A dirty, fake way out. But it was the only way out. I took a deep breath. "Fine. 6 months." Victor's lips curved. Not a smile. More like a predator who got what he wanted. "Good girl," he murmured. "The contract will be ready by morning. And Luna? One rule. No falling in love. This is business only." He stood up and pressed a button. "My assistant will take you to get clothes and a room. You start tomorrow." As I walked out with his assistant, I didn't know that the most dangerous part wasn't the contract. It was the way Victor looked at me like he already owned me. And the worst part? Part of me wanted him to.
