Chapter 3: First Day as His Luna

409 Words
I woke up in a room bigger than my whole old house. Silk sheets. Marble bathroom. A closet full of designer dresses with my size on the tags. Victor didn't waste time. There was a note on the bed. His handwriting. Sharp and cold. `7:00 AM. Breakfast. Don't be late. -V` It was 6:45. I picked the simplest black dress from the closet. No jewelry. No makeup. I looked like a ghost. Downstairs, Victor was already eating. Newspaper in one hand, coffee in the other. He didn't look up when I came in. "Sit," he said. I sat. The maids brought food I couldn't pronounce. "Eat," he ordered. "You look like you're going to faint." "I’m fine," I lied. He finally looked at me. His eyes scanned me from head to toe. Judging. "The contract is on the table. Read it. Sign it." I picked up the papers. 10 pages. Legal words I didn't understand. But one line stood out. `Clause 8: The Luna will not develop romantic feelings. Violation will result in immediate termination of contract.` My chest hurt. "What if I can't control it?" "Then don't sign," Victor said flatly. "This is business, Luna. Not a fairy tale." I bit my lip and signed. My name looked small next to his. "Good," he said. "Tonight is our first event. Kane Enterprises Gala. You will be on my arm. You will smile. You will not talk unless spoken to. And you will not look at Damian." My blood froze. "Damian will be there?" "Of course," Victor smirked. "He's our biggest competitor. And he needs to see what he threw away." The day went by in a blur. Hair, makeup, dress fitting. By 8 PM I didn't recognize myself in the mirror. Red dress. Diamonds. Hair up. I looked like a Luna. Victor came to get me. He was in a black tux. When he saw me, he stopped for half a second. "Not bad," he said. "You'll do." We walked into the gala together. 500 people. Cameras. Flashes. And there he was. Damian Blackwood. In a suit. With a woman on his arm. A real werewolf with a real wolf. His eyes met mine. Then they went wide. Then they turned to rage. Because I wasn't alone anymore. I was on Victor Kane's arm. Victor leaned down and whispered in my ear, "Smile, Luna. Let's break his heart." And for the first time since my rejection... I did.
