A flicker of something—was it fear?—crossed Elias’s face before his mask of arrogant control slammed back into place. He clearly didn’t understand, but he also couldn’t afford to show it. He interpreted my words as a threat, a wife’s dramatic, empty declaration. He couldn't conceive that it was a simple statement of fact. "Don't be like that, Serena," he said, his voice dropping to a low, placating tone. "We're a team. We'll get through this, and then we'll be stronger than ever. I’ll see you at the venue."
