10. Mate

1127 Words
Chapter 10 –Aiden’s POV– When she stepped into my office, my wolf let out a happy growl and I snapped my head to her. Mate. But why? I never thought my mate would be a rogue who had come to me when she had nowhere to go. No offense to rogues. I knew some of them became rogues for a good reason and many of them were even kicked out by their old packs not because they went against the rules but because they were too submissive to their former alphas… Men who always obeyed the rules can be dumped one day. The world needed men who dared to fight for something they cherished. I never found such things but killed my father out of hatred. I was not that selfless like what people sang songs for me. But later I did everything for my pack members because I knew what responsibilities were.  I didn’t want to become someone like my father, the asshole. I just wanted to be unlike him. So I chose the opposite. However, for a long time, I had not known what love was until…I met her.  To be honest, I never thought about the mate thing. I never expected she would show up in such a way. “Be seated, please,” I said, trying to calm down and for Goddess’s sake, she didn’t notice my nervousness.  I held my breath when I observed her. She had hazel eyes which were the same as her brother. But her hair was darker. The beautiful dark hair hid half of her rosy cheeks but made her look more attractive. At the same time, I noticed she shivered and bowed her head after seeing me.  What a pity. I couldn’t see her beautiful face anymore. Was I so horrible? I sighed and ordered her to call me by my name. Maybe it’s a way to bond with the shy girl? Usually to build a bond with my new members only cost me a drop of blood. I always bit my wrist before I squeezed a drop to the glass and then ordered the newcomers to do the same thing. Then we drank each other’s blood. However, this time I wanted to play a joke on her. But the cute girl didn’t realize I was playing a joke on her…which made things more interesting. When I accidentally bit her wrist a little, her body shivered like a leaf undergoing the gusting wind. But she pretended to be calm and drank my blood by sucking it from my wrist. She must have cast a spell on me, otherwise why would I become addicted to her lips? They looked so soft and I was reassured after she drank my blood. One day I would bite her soft lips and make her cry. I was pretty sure I could. …… I started to pay attention to her and when I noticed she was taken away by her brother, my good Beta, I knew something went wrong again. I didn’t know why my Beta would be so cruel to his only sister and even punish her. He made a deal with me, asking me to protect Anastasia. I agreed. That was why I got confused when he treated her in such a way. But now I knew I had to save her from her brother. Sarcastic.  But I saw Ajax quickly leave the locker room so I guessed he didn’t punish her this time. I walked in only to find a shirtless Anastasia sitting with her back to me. I held my breath and wanted to leave before I noticed there were bruises and lashes all over her back and arms. Who dared beat her? Anger welled up inside me. I knew I was losing control. The wounds on her body reminded me of how delicate she was. I should protect her. Forever. She was my mate and should be respected and protected. She was such a weak girl who needed me to tend to her…But nobody cared about her. Even her own brother. But I didn’t fulfill the promise. When I saw her standing on the training field, shivering in the wind, I knew I had to help her. She looked like she had a fever. So I took her to my office and was ready to give her medicine when she suddenly threw up. Why did she turn ill overnight?  I had so many questions but I had to drive her to the hospital first before interrogating her friend Farisa. I ignored the street lights all the way and rushed her there. Doctor Jackson ran towards my car. I had already mind linked him on the way and told him to be well prepared. My heart was wrung when I saw her rushed to the emergency room. When the doctor told me she was poisoned, my anger was strong enough to make me lose control of myself.  Who dared to poison my mate? Even though I had not announced her as my mate, she deserved staying in the pack safely as a member of it. But she didn’t. She was still living in hell just like what she had gone through before in Alpha Don’s pack! I was useless. For the first time in my life I felt like I was a weak pup in front of this…I could do nothing to protect my mate. I didn't even notice she was poisoned. I was not a qualified alpha. Glancing around, I found Farisa shuddering in fear but Ajax stopped me when  I was on the verge of fury. Yeah, I couldn’t hurt her. Not only because she was Anastasia’s friend, but also because she was my pack member. I shouldn’t mistreat her. Why couldn’t I protect my mate? I stared at the blank wall as if I could see through it and peek at her. I tried to calm down by thinking about how she passed out in my arms. But my thoughts went wilder when I thought of her soft lips…. How she desperately pressed them against mine… And how she looked into my eyes with tears welling up. She huffed like a dying girl who was seeking her only shelter. And I was her shelter. She grabbed my hand like I was her only asylum. I had to admit that Aa that time, she looked like a dying swan who was eager to kiss her lover.  A kind of beauty tainted with the colour of death. I wished she knew what she was doing instead of kissing me driven by the pills. Again, for the first time in my life, I started to pray like a dumb ass in love. But did she know?
