MADELINE’S POV — My throat is scratchy, my eyelids heavier than my entire body weight, my own body tingling with pins and needles. Everything is aching, and not with the normal pain that one feels when someone has knocked you out physically, but this affects every fibre of my body, every cell, every muscle. Forcing my eyes to open, the familiarity of the ceiling is what has my eyes narrowing as a slight stab behind my irises increase. I reach for my face only for chains to cackle as it snaps my arm back above my head, taunting me with how restrained I am. My eyes widen, my chest rising as I inhale a deep, panicked breath. My head dents the bed as I twist my neck to glance up at my hand, and then the other side, noticing the chains shackled to the bed’s post. When I try to scoot upward
