MADELINE'S POV -- I stare and stare until my eyes are dry and burning with the need to blink, but I refrain from it. I welcome the burn to distract myself as the whip of his words s***h against me. "No, I don't. I just feel guilty for burning you," I snap, trying to rip away from him, forcing myself to recoil from the man in front of me, trying to dive into the depths of my anger to lash out on him, to actually burn him, but my mind refuses. I refuse to hurt him any further, but why? "Because you care," He breathes as if it were a secret, as if his words could shatter the earth-- and they do. They shatter mine, because I do care. I care about him. "So what?" I sneer, and he lets me go. I stumble back two steps, gaining my balance as I stare at him. He snorts, eyes dancing with amusement,
