Chapter 30

CHAPTER 30 Erica's POV (Jane) I stood in front of Dante’s door, my knuckles hurting from knocking hard. Silence had settled in, heavy and thick, after the odd growls stopped. I pressed my ear against the cold wood, trying to hear something, any sign that he was okay. Nothing. My hand reached for the doorknob. Locked. Of course. “Dante?” I shouted, knocking on the door again, my voice showing worry I couldn't hide, “Are you there? Is everything okay?” The quiet was more disturbing than the growls had been. Then, it happened again, not really a growl this time but a muffled, strained noise, as if something was struggling, trying to get free from hidden limits. There was a loud bang against the wall, a scraping sound, and a soft snarl—like an animal in pain, ready to escape and strike.
