Chapter Five “Yes” Andrew said, looking at Ava with a wicked smile. “Just follow along” he whispered back. So how was it, honey? Did you have fun? Grandma asked. “Yes, I sure did have fun rehearsing for the uh...um...” “The play to help raise funds”, Andrew quickly chipped in. He got up to leave. “Why not stay for some cookies and tea?” Grandma said. That sounds lovely, but I must be on my way. Next time, perhaps. Ava stood up with him. “I’ll show him out” Ava said. “What is going on?” Ava asked as soon as the door closed behind them. Andrew stretched and said down and leaned on his car. “Aren’t you going to say anything?” It’s quite simple, when I ran into you and decided that you were going to be my fiancé. I had to come up with an excuse for you. You should thank me. “Thank you?” Ava said, her cheeks turning red in anger. “You’re welcome.” Ava was raving inside. This was unbelievable. How dare he? First you ran into me, then you kidn*pped me, forced me to sign a stupid ass contract, and now you just go ahead and tell the first lie that came into your dumb head to my grandparents. Who gave you the permission to do that? “Permission? I take permission from no one. “You think you can just come into my life and do whatever you want with it?” “Already did.” Ava swore. What was wrong with those people? Are they really that narcissistic? “Relax sweetheart” I’m just borrowing your life for a month. You can have it back after that.” “Screw you. Ava spat. I never agreed to all of this nonsense, taking control of my life, lying to my family. The least you could have done was ask.” “It escaped my mind” he said. Ava opened her mouth to say something, but he interrupted before she could. “Calm down sweetheart, nothing can be done about it” he said, starting the car. The engine revving violently and slowly turning into a gentle hum. “ See you tomorrow by nine sharp”. He said, speeding off, leaving an angry Ava sulking on the sidewalk. He hated him. She despised him. He didn’t even apologize for running into her, and then he forced her into this absolutely crazy deal. Should she file a report against him? It was too late to do that. She had already signed the stupid contract. Even if she could file a report, all these rich people always had their way around things. She took a deep breath. Once, twice, thrice. She took a deep breath. Once, twice, thrice. She had to calm her voice down before going back inside. She couldn’t show grandma and grandpa that she was pissed. They would be wondering what pissed her off, and how she was going to explain all this craziness she got herself into. She was going to get her revenge though. She just needed to find out how. She adjusted her night dress and put a smile on her face. She would get her revenge. Sweet sweet revenge. She stepped back inside and locked the door for the night. “Well, that young man was quite charming” Grandpa said, winking at her. “We’re just rehearsing for a play, nothing more” Ava said, grabbing a chocolate chip cookie. She closed her eyes as she savored the taste of the warm gooey chocolate in the cookie. The cookie was crispy outside and warm and soft on the inside. The perfect cookie. “Tell us more about the rehearsal” grandma said, making a space for her on the couch. “I wish I could, but I’m sapped” she said as she grabbed the plate of cookies from the table. “I’m taking these” she said as she sunk another warm cookie into her teeth. “Good night” she said, heading upstairs. “Good night” her grandparents echoed, watching Ava walk up the stairs. “She still has that little kid in her” Grandpa said, also standing up from bed. “I hope she never loses that” grandma said. They closed the windows and made sure the doors were locked like they did every night. It was a safe neighborhood, but you could never be too sure. Ava sat on her bed after finishing the plate of cookies. She was thinking of the perfect revenge plan. She felt insulted. Sure, she agreed to it, but still. She didn’t know exactly what she was thinking. Perhaps she didn’t even think at that moment. She felt coerced. Another thing that angered her. Perhaps for one moment she thought it would be nice, actually. Pretending to be in a relationship and getting paid after that. It would be an adventure, sure, but she wouldn’t let her be insulted because of that. She glanced around her room and her eyes fell on the picture of her late cat that sat on the wooden table. She missed him so much. She came into her life and just left like that. Ava felt angry at life for giving her a cat to love and then taking it away from her so ruthlessly. An idea suddenly popped up in her mind. She smirked sheepishly. Sweet revenge here I come, she said to herself as she lay down to sleep.
