Episode 5 A New Beginning

886 Words
After Daniel finally revealed part of the truth about his past, things between him and Zara slowly began to change. For the first time since they met, the silence between them no longer felt uncomfortable. But even though Zara now understood a little more about Daniel, she still knew that the situation was far from over. Rumors around campus had not stopped. In fact, they seemed to be spreading even faster. Over the next few days, Zara noticed how other students looked at Daniel. Some whispered when he walked past. Others avoided him completely. It made Zara uneasy. One afternoon, she found Daniel sitting alone in the campus garden—the same quiet place where they had first talked. He was staring at the fountain thoughtfully. Zara walked over slowly and sat beside him. “You always come here,” she said. Daniel smiled faintly. “It’s peaceful.” For a moment, neither of them spoke. Then Zara said quietly, “People are still talking about you.” Daniel nodded. “I expected that.” “Doesn’t it bother you?” Daniel shrugged slightly. “I’m used to it.” Zara looked at him carefully. “You shouldn’t have to be used to it.” Daniel turned to her. “You’re the only person here who believes me.” Zara smiled softly. “That’s because I listened to you before judging you.” Daniel looked at the water in the fountain again. “I wasn’t expecting that when I came here.” Zara laughed lightly. “Then you must not have expected to meet me.” Daniel chuckled. “You’re right about that.” But just as the conversation began to feel lighter, a familiar voice interrupted them. “Well, well… this is interesting.” Zara and Daniel both turned. The stranger Zara had seen before the one arguing with Daniel behind the science building—was standing a few steps away. His expression was cold. “What are you doing here?” Daniel asked sharply. The man crossed his arms. “I told you before you can’t just run away from what happened.” Zara looked between them. “Who is he?” Daniel didn’t answer immediately. The stranger spoke instead. “My name is Victor,” he said. “And Daniel knows exactly why I’m here.” Zara felt tension growing in the air. Victor looked directly at Daniel. “Everyone back at the old university still believes you’re responsible.” Daniel clenched his fists. “I already told you the truth.” Victor scoffed. “The truth doesn’t matter when people have already made up their minds.” Zara stood up. “Why are you doing this?” Victor glanced at her. “You must be the girl he’s been spending time with.” Daniel stepped forward. “Leave her out of this.” Victor smiled slightly. “You think you can protect people from your past?” Daniel’s voice became firm. “I said leave.” Victor stared at him for a moment. Then he sighed. “You’re lucky the investigation finally cleared your name.” Zara blinked in surprise. “Cleared his name?” Victor nodded. “Yes. The university finally confirmed that Daniel didn’t start the fight.” Daniel looked shocked. “When did that happen?” “Yesterday,” Victor replied. “The student who was injured finally told the truth.” For a moment, Daniel couldn’t speak. The weight he had been carrying for months suddenly felt lighter. Victor shook his head. “You should’ve waited before running away.” With that, he turned and walked away. The garden became quiet again. Zara looked at Daniel. “So… you’re finally free from all the accusations.” Daniel exhaled slowly. “I guess I am.” Zara smiled. “See? The truth always comes out eventually.” Daniel looked at her. “You never doubted me.” Zara shrugged lightly. “Something told me you were telling the truth.” Daniel’s expression softened. “I’m glad you didn’t listen to the rumors.” Zara laughed. “If I listened to every rumor on campus, I wouldn’t have any friends.” Daniel stood up. For the first time since arriving at the university, he felt like the past was no longer chasing him. “You know,” he said, “when I transferred here, I thought I would spend the rest of the year alone.” Zara raised an eyebrow. “And now?” Daniel smiled. “Now I’m not so sure.” Zara stood up beside him. “Well, you’re definitely not alone anymore.” The evening sky slowly turned orange as the sun began to set. Students walked across campus while laughter echoed in the distance. But for Daniel, everything finally felt different. His past no longer controlled him. And somehow, meeting Zara had changed everything. He looked at her. “Maybe fate really does bring people together for a reason.” Zara smiled. “Maybe it does.” As they walked slowly across the campus together, neither of them knew exactly what the future would bring. But one thing was certain. Sometimes the people we meet unexpectedly are the ones who change our lives the most. And sometimes… Love really does have the power to change fate.
