Three wolves emerged from the darkness.
Their eyes glowed red.
Kael immediately stepped in front of me.
“Stay behind me.”
I stared at his back.
“You just rejected me.”
“I know.”
“And now you’re protecting me?”
“Elara.”
His voice became dangerously low.
“Not now.”
The largest wolf stepped forward.
“Give us the girl.”
Kael’s body stiffened.
“Leave.”
The wolf laughed.
“She doesn’t belong to you anymore.”
Kael’s eyes flashed.
“She never belonged to anyone.”
The wolf smiled.
“Exactly.”
Then they attacked.
Kael shifted.
His black wolf exploded from his body, enormous and terrifying.
He slammed into the first attacker.
The impact shook the ground.
Another wolf charged toward me.
I tried to move.
Too late.
It grabbed my arm.
Pain exploded through my palm.
The Lunar symbol burned.
Silver light burst from my body.
The wolf was thrown backward.
I stared at my hands.
“What did I just do?”
The wolf scrambled away.
“The Lunar Bloodline.”
My heart stopped.
It knew.
Kael shifted back.
“What did you say?”
The wolf snarled.
“She’s the last one.”
Kael grabbed it.
“Who told you?”
The wolf laughed.
“You really thought your little rejection would hide her?”
Kael’s expression darkened.
“What are you talking about?”
“The Council knows.”
I looked at Kael.
“The Council?”
The wolf grinned.
“They’ve been searching for her since she was born.”
Kael went still.
The wolf continued.
“Her mother should have been dead.”
My breath caught.
“My mother?”
The wolf’s eyes moved toward me.
“Your mother wasn’t killed.”
I stepped forward.
“Where is she?”
The wolf laughed.
“Ask your precious Alpha King.”
I turned toward Kael.
He didn’t look at me.
“You knew.”
He closed his eyes.
“Elara…”
“You knew something about my mother.”
“I knew there were rumors.”
“How long?”
“Years.”
My heart sank.
“And you never told me.”
“I was trying to protect you.”
“You rejected me!”
His eyes met mine.
“I had no choice.”
I laughed bitterly.
“Everyone always says that when they hurt someone.”
The wolf suddenly lunged.
Kael killed it before it reached me.
Silence fell.
I stared at the body.
Then at Kael.
“What exactly am I?”
He looked at my glowing hand.
“You’re the last descendant of the Lunar Bloodline.”
I shook my head.
“No.”
“Elara—”
“No!”
I backed away.
“I’m an omega.”
“You were raised as one.”
“What does that mean?”
Kael’s voice was quiet.
“Your father was the last Lunar King.”
My breath disappeared.
“What?”
“The Lunar Kingdom was destroyed eighteen years ago.”
“Why?”
“The Moon Council.”
I stared at him.
“And my mother?”
“We believe she survived.”
I felt dizzy.
Before I could ask anything else, Mira appeared in the garden.
“Elara!”
She ran toward me.
Then she saw the dead wolves.
Her face went pale.
“What happened?”
I looked at her.
“I think my entire life is a lie.”
That night, Mira told me something her grandmother had once told her.
The Lunar family wasn’t ordinary.
They had ruled wolves long before the modern Alpha kingdoms existed.
They could control moon magic.
They could speak to ancient wolves.
And they possessed a power called the Lunar Command.
A power capable of forcing any wolf to obey.
“Why were they destroyed?” I asked.
Mira lowered her voice.
“Because the other kingdoms were afraid.”
“Afraid of what?”
“Of a queen who couldn’t be controlled.”
I looked at my palm.
The symbol glowed faintly.
Suddenly there was a knock.
Kael entered.
His eyes met mine.
“I need to tell you something.”
“What?”
He looked at my hand.
“You’re not just the last Lunar Daughter.”
He paused.
“You’re the rightful heir.”
I stared at him.
“To what?”
“The Lunar Throne.”
My heart pounded.
I was no longer just an omega.
I was the heir to a forgotten kingdom.
And somewhere in the darkness…
someone was hunting me.
