Chapter Seventy-Two
Officer Pete James was in a great mood. Earlier in the day, before coming on shift, he’d asked his girlfriend to marry him, and she’d enthusiastically agreed.
Nothing that would happen on his shift tonight would be able to break his mood. He’d already made two traffic stops, letting both with a warning and a few kind words. Tonight would be a great shift; he could feel it.
He was just leaving a residence where he’d taken a report about a stolen bicycle from earlier in the day. Even though the people were upset about the bike, Pete was determined to get a smile out of them during their interaction, and he’d been successful.
