When they were about ten minutes from home, Danny asked, “When did you last talk to Bethany?”
“When we met at the park, and she blew up at me. Why?”
“There was no hesitation when I asked her to babysit. When she arrived, and I said you were injured, she was very upset.”
“That’s how she is. She never stays mad, especially with me.”
“What have you told her about what you do?” Danny asked.
“Nothing. She connected some dots. I think she has some ideas.”
“She arrived a little early, wanted to talk, and she certainly has some ideas. Some are a bit off target, but she’s close.”
“What’s she off about?”
“Because of your military background, she thinks you’re working for the government. She has a good idea what you do but thinks some agency sanctions the jobs.”
