Chapter Thirty-Seven
Metro PD Detective Mike Wilcox parked behind an ambulance, got out of his vehicle, and took in the scene before him. The fires from the burning cars had been extinguished, but the Fire Department was still on scene, and there were grey hoses stretched all over the crime scene.
The smell of burned rubber, plastic, and foam from the destroyed vehicles was still thick in the air.
He lifted the yellow crime scene tape and saw his partner, Emily Filk, by the remains of a Cadillac SUV which was on its roof. The color of the vehicle was indistinguishable since the paint had all baked off in the blaze. The metal rims from the wheels were sticking up in the air. The rubber was completely burned away.
