Chapter Two

A couple of days later it was Thursday. As I was doing the final touches on the Stanley project, I received a text from Tara reminding me of my appointment with the tailor at 5:30 pm. I looked at my desk clock and realized I had one hour before my scheduled appointment., I quickly sent the finished videos and pictures to the wedding DJ and locked up for the night. Since the tailor was located on the opposite side of town I figured it would be best to leave earlier than necessary to beat the traffic. When I did make it to the tailors I had only minutes to spare. However, the building before me caught my eye. It was a black and white building with a modern look. Apparently, Tara always suggested 'Stich and Fix' to her clients for the past couple of years. I had never met the tailors nor set foot into their establishment since I worked more on the technical side of the wedding industry. I was shocked when I walked into the place. I had expected something similar to most dress shops. Carpet flooring with racks upon racks of dresses for various occasions. Instead, the floor was glossy and minimal dresses were held on racks against the walls. The lighting helped to create a soft glow. Close to the door was a simple counter with a small woman behind it. "Welcome to Stitch and Fix. How may I assist you?" The woman asked in a cheerful voice. Her jet black hair was pulled into a beautiful messy bun and her face was lightly dusted with makeup. Her golden-green eyes pierced mine but in a nonthreatening manner. She wore a black dress that probably cost more than my entire wardrobe. I suddenly felt inadequate in my black turtleneck and red jeggings while my auburn hair struggled to be contained in my ponytail. I cleared my throat as I responded, "Hello umm…" I felt my nerves grow the longer I stood in this place. "I'm here for a fitting appointment. My name is Kimberly Evers." Her eyes sparkled as she flashed me a wide smile. "Oh! We have been waiting for you! Tara called us earlier this week and we made it our mission to schedule an appointment for you. Please follow me." She said happily as she walked toward me. Gesturing me to follow her. I noticed that her shoes were red bottoms. And there goes my sense of style. "I'm so glad to finally meet you, Kimberly. Tara is always mentioning you. It's good to finally meet you in the flesh. I'm Anna Walters." She looked back at me as she spoke. I could feel my face warm at her words. What did Tara say about me? "Thank you. I don't really get to personally meet the vendors since I'm the graphic designer. But I do know that Tara loves recommending her clients to you." I responded honestly. Tara always said what a great person Anna was to work with. Tara would recommend the Stitch and Fix before any other tailor. "Tara is a pleasure to work with. We women must stick together you know." She chuckled as we walked to the back of the shop. There was a three-way mirror and a platform in the middle of the back area. There was a man cleaning the mirror. He turned around and gave us a small smile. His features seemed to be of Spanish descent with short dark brown tresses. He wore a white button-down shirt with a black vest and pants to match. He was slightly taller than me but had a slimmer build. "Kimberly, this is my partner Sebastian Mora," Anne introduced as I shook his hand. Sebastian's smile never left his face, but his hand had a slight chill to it. Since spring was still lingering, I left it alone. "Sebastian, this is Kimberly. The appointment Tara called about." Anna explained but I felt something was off about her words. Was it code for something? "Yes," He replied in a thick accent, "Tara told us all about the charity ball. Now that I am seeing you in person, I think we have the perfect dress for you." He turned on his heel and walked behind some door. Within seconds he reappeared with a long bag in his hands. I was then guided to a dressing room where Anna helped me into both a corset and the dress. Once the last button was fastened, I walked out and set up on the platform. Is this the dress? I was dumbfounded when I saw myself in the mirror. It was a soft champagne color. The bodice was covered in lace as well as my arms. A thick ribbon wrapped around my waist as the bottom portion flowed out like a waterfall. The dress was a V-neck; however, it was more classy than scandalous. I was afraid that the color would make me look sickly. Instead, it helped to enhance the pink undertones on my skin. "So, what do you think?" I heard Anna ask. "I love it," I answered unable to look away from myself. I didn't view myself as a troll but I never felt as beautiful as I did in this dress. "I knew it. It's almost as if this dress was made for you." Sebastian stated as he winked at Anna. She giggled at him as she lightly slapped his shoulder. I wonder what type of partners they are? Anna explained the adjustments she would make to the gown as Sebastian took notes. After her evaluation, Anna assisted me in getting out of the dress. As the dress pooled at my feet, I noticed a small price tag. How expensive is this dress? After I redressed myself, Sebastian approached me while Anna repackaged the dress. "I'm so glad the dress was a success. Anna worked so hard on it. Luckily it'll go to someone who will appreciate it." "Anna made that dress. By hand?" I gasped. Truly a dress with such beauty must have taken days or even weeks to create. Sebastian laughed at my face and nodded. "Yes, she did. In fact, all of the dresses in this shop are created by hand. Anna sure has a way with a needle. I may not be as skilled as her, but I help out as much as I can." "What are you talking about Bebe? Your sewing skills are getting better every day. Maybe one day you will be able to out stitch me." Anna chastised him as she stood beside him. "Anna Banana, no one could ever out stitch you. Plus, I love seeing the look on your face when you finish a new dress or collection. For that, I don't mind catching up with you. As long as I get to be beside you." He answered softly. At that moment, it was clear to me that they were more than just business partners. They may not have been making out, but I could see the emotion for each other as they stared into each other's eyes. I looked down as I felt a slight touch of jealousy within me. I could only hope to find that type of love one day. Someone to look upon me and Anna and Sebastian did. 'Anna and Sebastian," I said loudly to catch their attention. Almost as if I had broken a spell between them, they both batted their eyelashes and turned toward me. "Thank you so much for taking this appointment so late in the week. Please tell me how much I owe you." Anna rolled her eyes as she blew a raspberry. "No need, Kimberly. Consider it a gift for Tara constantly giving us business. "Are you sure? I have no problem paying." I really wanted to pay. Although it probably meant draining my savings, I would do it. "That is not necessary. Plus, I have a feeling that that dress will bring you great fortune. It was fate that we were to meet today." She responded as she dismissed my attempts to pay once again. Sebastian chuckled, "When Anna feels a friendship will form, she will never allow business to interfere." I released a sigh of defeat as I conceded. But I felt my heart beat harder at her words. I was happy to make friends with both of them despite just meeting them today. But something else made my heart beat harder. What did she mean by fate bringing me to meet her?
