Several people went on stage to speak for the next forty-five minutes. Two speakers for top hospital administrators and the other two were researchers who explained their research studies and how important it was to receive funding. I’m certain it was all important and necessary. But I was bored out of my mind. I counted the number of chandeliers and tables to help pass the time. I may have sneaked a glance or two at the Matthews. They sat close together with Nathaniel’s arm draped over the back of Ella’s chair. They seemed as though they were the world’s perfect couple.
